Lyca Mobile Coverage: How to Check Signal, 4G and 5G in Your Area

To check Lyca Mobile coverage at your postcode, first identify the UK network behind the Lyca SIM you are considering, then use Ofcom's free Map Your Mobile coverage checker to check that network. Compare indoor and outdoor reception separately, and look at both 4G and 5G before deciding whether to switch.

A coverage map is a prediction, not a promise that calls and data will work in every room. This guide shows how to read the results, what to do if signal is weak and when it makes sense to compare current Lyca Mobile SIM deals.

How do you check Lyca Mobile coverage by postcode?

Check the places where you will actually use your phone, not a national coverage percentage.

  1. Find the current host network. On the Lyca deals page linked above, read the Network field on the plan you are considering. Network arrangements can change, so do not rely on an old article.
  2. Open Ofcom's postcode coverage checker. Enter your full UK postcode and select the host network. Ofcom shows the four main UK networks rather than a separate map for each SIM-only brand. If you are unsure which network to select, use the Can't find your provider? explanation in Ofcom's checker or confirm it with Lyca.
  3. Check indoor coverage at home and at work. A good outdoor result does not mean a reliable call in a ground-floor kitchen, a basement or a building with thick walls.
  4. Compare 4G and 5G. If the 5G map is patchy and the 4G prediction is stronger, decide whether reliable 4G is enough for your use. You also need an eligible plan and a compatible phone to use 5G.
  5. Check your other regular locations. That could be a university room, a relative's house or a place you visit often. If you can, test a SIM before you move a number you depend on.

What do the coverage results mean?

Ofcom distinguishes good outdoor and in-home coverage from good outdoor but variable indoor reception. Its map gives a local coverage prediction; the separate performance scores reflect measurements across a wider postcode district, not a speed test in your home. Use the map to assess whether a network is likely to work at your address, then treat district performance as extra context rather than a personal speed guarantee.

ResultWhat it means for youSensible next step
Good outdoor and in-home predictionThe network is a reasonable candidate for everyday useCheck the plan's price and features, and test the SIM if indoor calls are critical
Good outdoors, variable indoorsYou may get usable service outside and patchy reception insideCheck the rooms that matter, and confirm Wi-Fi Calling support if you need it
Variable or poor outdoor coverageReception may be unreliable in that areaCompare a different host network before buying
Strong 4G, weaker 5GReliable 4G may be enough for browsing, messaging and video callsDo not choose a plan solely for its 5G badge
Good result on the map but slow data in practiceCongestion, buildings or your phone may be the causeTest at the time and place you normally use data

Coverage and speed are different things. Your signal may be usable while data slows at busy times, and two brands on the same host network can still differ in speeds, service features and Wi-Fi Calling support. Ofcom explains the limits of its predictions and performance measurements in the Map Your Mobile FAQs.

Is 5G available on Lyca where you live?

A Lyca plan advertised with 5G does not mean you get 5G at every postcode. Three things must line up: the plan must be eligible, your phone must support 5G, and the host network must have usable 5G coverage at that location.

Check the recorded 5G and eSIM details on our Lyca deals page, then check the network's predicted 5G signal with Ofcom. If Wi-Fi Calling matters because your indoor signal is weak, confirm that your phone and Lyca service support it, because a 5G or eSIM icon does not show Wi-Fi Calling compatibility. For calls, banking apps, maps and messages, dependable indoor 4G is often more useful than occasional outdoor 5G.

What if the map shows good coverage but your signal is poor?

Work out the cause before deciding the network is unusable.

Weak signal indoors. Compare the indoor and outdoor predictions. Building materials, basements, insulated glazing and your position in the room all affect reception. Test near a window and check whether your phone and service support Wi-Fi Calling. It is a normal mobile call carried over Wi-Fi, which is different from a WhatsApp call, and your usual calling charges can still apply.

Slow data. Compare places and times of day. If your phone works elsewhere, local congestion or weak reception may be involved. Check that mobile data is enabled and that your plan still has usable allowance before buying extra data. A good coverage prediction does not establish the speed you will receive.

Service that stops suddenly. A prediction map does not show live mast faults, maintenance or account problems. Check Lyca's official coverage and service information and contact its support channels if needed; the Ofcom map is not a live outage checker.

One location that never works. Try a different host network. Switching between two providers on the same network may not fix a local blackspot, even if their plans differ.

Should you buy a Lyca SIM if coverage looks good?

A good prediction makes Lyca worth considering, but it does not make it the best deal. After the postcode check, these are the questions that decide the purchase:

Your situationWhat to check before choosing Lyca
You want a cheap UK data SIMEnough data for your real use, the first price and what you pay after any promotion
You need strong indoor receptionThe indoor prediction, and a test SIM before you move your main number if possible
You rely on 5G or eSIMThe exact plan, phone and activation method, not a provider-wide claim
You call numbers abroadThat your countries and mobile or landline numbers are covered, because international bundles can be separate products
You may leave or change SIM soonThe renewal cycle, minimum term, cancellation conditions and total payments over your dates

If coverage looks suitable, compare current Lyca Mobile SIM-only deals on DealPriceCheck. Our provider page shows selected offers with recorded data allowances, introductory and later prices where available, network labels, plan terms and each offer's own last-verified date. Open Full plan details to check a recorded offer, then select View Deal to continue to the operator. Confirm the final price and eligibility before buying.

If reception is what matters most and the brand matters less, our UK SIM-only comparison lets you compare other providers and host networks. If the Lyca plan you are looking at is recorded on EE, you can also browse our EE-network SIM comparison. The same host network does not guarantee identical plan features.

Frequently asked questions

Does Lyca Mobile have good coverage in the UK?

It can, wherever its host network gives a reliable signal. The useful answer is specific to your postcode, so check your home, workplace and regular locations with Ofcom and look closely at indoor reception. A national percentage cannot tell you whether one room has usable service.

Which network does Lyca Mobile use?

Read the Network label on the current Lyca SIM offer before you buy, then select that network in Ofcom's checker. Do not treat any network arrangement as permanent, because providers can change wholesale partners.

Is there a Lyca Mobile coverage checker by postcode?

Yes: use Ofcom's Map Your Mobile postcode checker. Identify the network behind the Lyca plan, enter your postcode and compare 4G and 5G indoors and outdoors. This DealPriceCheck article does not run its own coverage checker.

Does Lyca Mobile have 5G everywhere?

No UK provider has usable 5G everywhere. Check the 5G prediction for your postcode and the eligibility of the Lyca plan and your phone. If 5G is weak but 4G is dependable, the service may still suit you.

Why is Lyca signal weak inside my house?

Building materials, nearby obstacles and the position of the nearest mast all affect indoor reception. Compare the indoor and outdoor map results, test the SIM if you can and check whether Wi-Fi Calling works on your phone and service.

Will another provider on the same network improve coverage?

Not necessarily. Providers on the same host network have similar radio coverage, though their features, performance policies and support can differ. If you have a persistent blackspot, compare a different network.

Can I keep my number when moving to Lyca Mobile?

Normally yes. Request a PAC from your current provider before cancelling and check for any contract charges. See our guide to keeping your mobile number when switching.

How we assessed Lyca coverage

This guide explains how to use Ofcom's independent coverage checker alongside the network fields on our selected Lyca SIM deals, with Lyca's official service guidance for troubleshooting. Ofcom's coverage forecasts are based on network-operator predictions, with separate wider-area performance measurements. We have not conducted our own nationwide signal, speed or indoor-reception tests. The article's publication date is not a live status check.

DealPriceCheck covers selected UK SIM-only offers, not every plan on the market. Confirm prices and eligibility with the operator at checkout. Coverage maps and plan terms can change independently, and our editorial checks do not guarantee reception at your address.
