1pMobile vs Three: Which SIM Offers Better Value?

---

<!-- PUBLIC ARTICLE START -->

Last checked: 29 October 2026.

Short answer: Pick 1pMobile if EE signal is good where you live and you want to change or stop after any 30-day Boost. Pick Three if its signal is clearly better at your addresses, or if a Three Your Way plan (Lite, Lite+, Value or Complete) gives you roaming, speed or Three+ rewards you will really use. Judge a 24-month Three deal by its total minimum cost. The low opening payment is not the price of the whole contract.

1pMobile runs on the EE network. Three is a separate retailer with its own plans, now part of VodafoneThree. This guide compares 1pMobile's flexible Boosts with Three's own contracts, not a different Three-network provider or an EE retail plan. Start with current 1pMobile SIM deals or Three retail SIM-only deals. For a concrete flexible option, check the 1pMobile 50GB Boost alongside the nearest usable Three offer, including its full-term cost.

A 50GB 1pMobile Boost and a 25GB Three Lite contract are different products. They can still be sensible alternatives if you use 20–25GB, but a fair comparison has to count the spare data on one side and the extra months of commitment on the other. If you stop a Boost without closing the 1pMobile account, standard PAYG minimum-spend rules may start to apply.

Which has better coverage: 1pMobile (EE) or Three?

Neither wins at every address. 1pMobile uses EE. Three runs its retail service inside VodafoneThree, where the networks are still being integrated. Sharing between Vodafone and Three does not mean every Three customer can use every Vodafone mast, band or 5G feature everywhere.

Use Ofcom's Map Your Mobile to check EE (for 1pMobile) and Three at home, at work and anywhere your signal tends to drop. Read the indoor 4G prediction separately from outdoor 5G, and repeat the check along your commute or at any rural place you visit often. Ofcom's figures describe an area. They are not a speed test of these SIMs in your living room.

Does the VodafoneThree merger give Three Vodafone's coverage?

Not automatically. Three advertises integrated network access, but rollout is ongoing and no one promises identical availability at every location. That matters here because you are comparing a Three retail contract with EE-based 1pMobile, not with SMARTY or another Three-network provider. Our Three network guide covers the wider infrastructure. If you mean Three-based SMARTY, which sells a different retail product, use our 1pMobile vs SMARTY comparison instead. This page sticks to Three's own branded contracts.

Is 1pMobile 5G faster than Three 5G?

It depends on the tariff as much as the mast. 1pMobile advertises its ordinary Boosts without a general speed cap, though it can't promise a real-world result. Three's published Your Way terms describe standard Lite, Value and Complete plans as up to 100Mbps, and Lite+ adds Full Speed. Some specifically marked 24-month Lite offers, including 25GB and 120GB in the reviewed price guide, also include the best available speeds. Complete is therefore not automatically faster than Lite+ or a qualifying Lite promotion, and none guarantees a real-world speed over an EE-based Boost.

If you mostly message, browse, navigate and stream video, steady indoor signal matters more than a theoretical peak. If you run a laptop hotspot daily or upload large files, check the exact speed terms and how busy the network gets at your peak hours. Our MVNO speeds guide explains why using a network doesn't guarantee equal speed or priority. If you're comparing 1pMobile with EE retail on the same host network, the separate EE vs 1pMobile guide addresses that question.

5GB, 25GB, 50GB, 100GB, 120GB or Unlimited: which plans match?

The two ranges don't line up. Start with your actual monthly use, then choose the smallest allowance that covers it. Three's published range includes 4GB, 12GB, 25GB, 30GB, 120GB and larger options across eligible terms, but our currently tracked Three retail cards are 25GB, 120GB and Unlimited. A number in the official price guide is not proof that a particular promotional checkout is available. We therefore compare the nearest real cards, not imaginary 1pMobile 25GB or Three 50GB products.

Light use: is a 5GB Boost enough?

If you stay on home Wi-Fi and only need maps, messages and some data on the move, a 5GB Boost may cover you without a long commitment. Three's shorter-term range includes nearby sizes, but they aren't necessarily cheaper once you price the same length of service. A 12GB contract is poor value if you use 3GB and can't leave when you like.

1pMobile's Classic PAYG is a different product from the 5GB Boost. It charges per unit and has a minimum-spend rule, so it only suits people who make very few calls and use almost no data.

Around 25GB: cheap Three Lite headline or flexible 1pMobile?

Someone using 22GB a month might find Three's 25GB tier a neat fit, while 1pMobile's 50GB Boost leaves more spare data. A 24-month Three Lite card can show a low introductory payment, but that is only part of the contract. Ask how much the bill rises after the promotion, whether April increases apply, and whether you might want to change network within two years.

If nothing ties you to Three for two years, put the 1pMobile 50GB card next to the Three 25GB card's full details. More spare data doesn't make 1pMobile the better choice if Three is the only network that works at home.

50GB and 100GB: Three has no exact match

1pMobile's 50GB and 100GB Boosts are simple, flexible starting points. Our selected Three cards include no exact 50GB or 100GB plan, so compare the nearest allowance Three actually sells, along with its commitment. If a Three 120GB plan costs only a little more than a 100GB alternative and you will use the extra, it can make sense. If you use 45GB a month, paying for 120GB buys you nothing.

Look at your phone's mobile-data history for three normal months, including a busy one. Our mobile data guide helps you decide between 50GB, 100GB and more.

120GB and Unlimited: speed and fair use decide it

If you regularly use more than 100GB, Three's 120GB Lite card is a closer data fit than 1pMobile's 100GB Boost, and the 150GB Boost is another flexible option. Both providers offer routes to very high use or Unlimited, but UK Unlimited does not mean unlimited roaming.

1pMobile's Unlimited Boost has a published 500GB per 30-day period threshold for personal usage. Above that level, the operator's terms allow intervention, such as deprioritising data, applying charges or restricting service in cases of prohibited or excessive use; it isn't a promise of unrestricted full-speed use indefinitely. Three applies its own different network-management and fair-use terms. If you plan to replace home broadband, test local reception and read the device-use terms before signing for two years. See our 100GB vs Unlimited guide and hotspot guide.

What do Three Lite, Lite+, Value and Complete include?

The tiers are not a simple ladder from slow to fast. Three's standard tiers mainly differ in speed add-on, included roaming and selected extras, and your signed offer decides what you actually get.

Three Your Way tierSpeed under standard termsRoaming and extrasWho it suits
LiteUp to 100Mbps, unless a Full Speed promotion or add-on appliesThree+ rewards; Go Roam usually not includedAnyone wanting the cheapest core Three service who will check roaming charges
Lite+Full Speed add-on, subject to network conditionsLite-type benefits; faster speed doesn't add roamingHeavy downloaders and hotspot users who have tested Three's signal
ValueUp to 100MbpsEligible Go Roam in Europe; entertainment depends on exact termsRegular European travellers who would otherwise buy passes
CompleteUp to 100MbpsWider eligible Go Roam bands, plus qualifying entertainment benefitsFrequent travellers beyond Europe

The current published 24-month Lite table marks 25GB and 120GB promotional options with an asterisk for the network's best possible speeds, despite the usual Lite ceiling. The same starred offers are also described as exempt from annual increases to the daily roaming charge; that does not make Go Roam free. These benefits apply only if the specific sales offer and agreement match the marked product, not merely because a plan says Lite or 25GB. Check that entitlement on the Three offer before deciding. Paramount+ and other entertainment benefits also depend on the contract version and eligibility.

Is Three+ worth keeping if you switch to 1pMobile?

Only count what you actually redeemed and would otherwise have paid for. Three+ rewards and partner offers can change, expire or run out. If you save £3 on something you buy twice a month, that is worth £6 a month. A reward you never use is worth £0.

Switching to 1pMobile also means losing any benefit tied to your Three contract. List what you used in the last three months and compare its net value with the difference in your bills. An optional add-on you paid for is not a benefit of the contract you are leaving.

What does 1pMobile cost vs Three over 12 and 24 months?

A 30-day Boost and a 24-month Three contract don't cover the same stretch of time. To stay covered for 365 days on 30-day Boosts you need 13 periods, because 12 cover only 360 days. Across a typical 24-calendar-month span of 730 or 731 days, you need 25 periods, because 24 × 30 days is only 720 days; the last renewal extends beyond the comparison date. Three bills by calendar month, and a 24-month contract usually creates liability for the whole minimum term. Never equate “30 days” to “one calendar month” in a switching calculation.

The £7 Three 25GB deal is not £7 for 24 months

At our 29 October 2026 snapshot, the Three 25GB 24-month Lite card showed £7 as the opening monthly payment and £328.20 as the total minimum contract cost. That works out at about £13.68 a month (£328.20 ÷ 24). Multiplying £7 by 24 gives £168, which understates that snapshot's minimum cost by £160.20.

Treat these numbers as a dated example of how to read a card, not a standing offer or a rebuilt bill schedule. Always check the current Three 25GB deal details and the provider's final contract summary.

The £328.20 figure is the recorded minimum cost of that Three retail agreement, not a universal Three 25GB price, and it does not establish what the first 12 bills total. For an illustrative cross-check, 25 renewals of the 1pMobile 50GB Boost at a hypothetical unchanged £10 per renewal would cost £250 across about two years, against £328.20 for the dated Three contract snapshot. That is a conditional £78.20 difference, not a like-for-like price promise: the 1pMobile price can change, the data allowances and coverage differ, and only Three fixes a 24-month contractual liability. Use the two live plan cards and your own expected service dates for the actual decision.

How to compare 365 days and a full minimum term

Buying modelCorrect methodCommon mistake
1pMobile Boost at a steady price B13 × B for 365 days of continuous coverTreating 12 × B as a full year
1pMobile Boost over about 24 months25 purchases for about 730 days, allowing for renewal price changesAssuming 30 days equals a calendar month
Three 12-month contractAdd all 12 invoices and any upfront paymentUsing only the first promotional payment
Three 24-month contractAdd every scheduled payment and upfront charge across all 24 monthsMultiplying the opening price by 24
Leaving Three earlyAdd the applicable early termination charge to replacement service costsAssuming a PAC removes fees when the old service ends

Worked example, not a tariff quote: if a 1pMobile 50GB Boost stayed at £10 on every renewal, 13 periods would cost £130 for 365 days, and 25 periods would cost £250 for about 730 days. If the renewal price changed, so would those totals. Certain introductory 1pMobile Boost offers also make the initial discount conditional on keeping auto-renewal active during the promotion's qualifying period; the operator's published terms can remove the discount if renewal is cancelled or fails too early. Check the precise offer conditions before treating the first period as a cheap one-off trial. For Three, use the real bill schedule for the right allowance, not an assumed £10 or £7 throughout.

How do Three's promotions and April price increases affect the total?

Three's newer eligible agreements add fixed pound-and-pence increases to the monthly charge each April, depending on the data band. In the terms we reviewed, plans of 5–99GB rise by a different amount from plans of 100GB or more. One agreement can include an opening discount, a regular monthly charge and an April rise at different points, and contract versions or sales-channel exceptions can change the detail. Three's published early cancellation method also starts from remaining monthly charges and deducts a variable discount; obtain the personalised exit amount rather than guessing that your remaining bills disappear.

To compare properly, mark the start date, every introductory price expiry, each 1 April, the minimum-term end and any upfront fee. Then total what you would pay in each period. If a card's minimum-contract figure already includes scheduled increases, don't add them again. For a 24-month plan, note both the first twelve invoices (your first-year cash outflow) and the full minimum liability (what you are signing up to).

How much could you save by switching from Three?

Use one comparison period and count every cost: savings from switching = the remaining Three payments − the early cancellation charge − replacement Boost purchases − any lost benefits or required replacement extras. If the Three minimum term has months left, a lower headline Boost price may not recover the exit charge before that term ends. A switching calculation must also compare calendar-month bills with actual 30-day Boost coverage.

Hypothetical example with exact dates: compare service from 1 November 2026 to 1 September 2027, a span of 304 days or ten consecutive calendar-month bills. Staying with Three at £25 for those ten bills costs £250. Suppose leaving incurs a £160 early cancellation fee, while a suitable 1pMobile Boost costs £12.50 for each 30-day period. Ten Boosts cover only 300 of the 304 days, so uninterrupted replacement service requires 11 Boosts, costing £137.50. Switching would cost £160 + £137.50 = £297.50, or £47.50 more than staying, before valuing lost Three+ or roaming benefits. These are invented illustration amounts, not actual tariff or cancellation quotes. In a different 300-day window ten Boosts would suffice: the number of renewals depends on the actual dates, not a casual assumption that every month has 30 days.

Roaming: 1pMobile Boost vs Three Go Roam

For many eligible European trips, 1pMobile is the simpler option. Qualifying Boosts can use their UK allowance in the provider's included European destinations, up to 14GB of roaming data per Boost. A 5GB Boost does not turn into a 14GB roaming bundle: the usable limit is the smaller of your UK allowance and 14GB. 1pMobile currently lists 46 eligible European destinations, and you should check your own on that list.

With Three, it depends on your plan. Lite and Lite+ generally don't include Go Roam, so you may need a pass or a daily fee. Value includes Go Roam in Europe on applicable newer contracts, and Complete includes wider qualifying bands. The Go Roam data limit is typically up to 12GB of your UK allowance, not bonus data. The Republic of Ireland is a material exception: Three does not apply its usual 12GB Go Roam ceiling or daily roaming charge there, while the underlying UK allowance and other conditions still matter. Elsewhere, having included data and having free access to use it are different questions.

Does Three Value or Complete save money when you travel?

Possibly, but included access and included data are two separate things. A qualifying Value or Complete plan can remove the paid Go Roam charge for specified destinations, while fair-use limits still apply. If you travel once, the extra cost of the higher tier over the whole contract may be more than the pass you would have bought on Lite. If you keep returning to a destination in Complete's wider bands, it can go the other way.

Keep a simple trip ledger: country, days, expected data, which band applies, any pass or daily charge, and the extra monthly cost of the higher tier over the minimum term. On Three, your Spend Cap may need to allow chargeable roaming, so check My3 before you leave. On 1pMobile, remember the 14GB limit and the fair-use rules for repeated or extended time abroad. For the wider market, see our EU roaming guide.

Classic PAYG, eSIM, Wi-Fi Calling and 5G

Is 1pMobile Classic PAYG better for an occasional-use SIM?

It can be, if you mostly receive calls, send the odd text and use almost no data. Classic PAYG bills UK calls, texts and data per unit and has a minimum-spend rule. Under the operator's current terms, customers joining from 1 August 2026 must meet £10 of eligible usage/spend every 90 days; earlier joiners have different commitment periods. If actual spending falls short, the operator may deduct the difference from credit or seek a top-up. A barely used backup SIM is therefore not free to keep indefinitely. Crucially, when all Boosts end, the account reverts to the current PAYG requirements, with the relevant commitment period starting after the Boost ends. Stopping a Boost is not the same as closing the SIM account; check both renewal and account-closure rules if you intend to leave. Classic PAYG has no dedicated verified purchase card in our Boost catalogue.

If you browse, stream or navigate regularly, even a small bundle is easier to budget than paying per megabyte. A Three Your Way plan includes a regular data allowance, so it doesn't compare directly with Classic PAYG.

Do both offer eSIM, Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE and 5G?

Yes, subject to plan and handset. 1pMobile provides eSIM, 4G Calling (VoLTE) and Wi-Fi Calling, whatever older third-party comparison tables still say. Three also supports eSIM and Wi-Fi Calling on eligible devices. Neither brand guarantees that an imported or older handset has the right operator settings.

If you are buying for an older relative or rely on indoor calls, test VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, not just whether the phone shows 4G or 5G. Three has switched off its 3G network, so 4G Calling matters more on older phones. For eSIM, check that your exact model supports it and that your order is eligible. A missing eSIM label on one comparison card doesn't prove the provider lacks eSIM.

Can you use a laptop hotspot on either network?

Yes, on suitable plans and devices, within each provider's data and fair-use terms. For video meetings, the speed you get at your desk matters more than the number of gigabytes. Check separately before putting a consumer SIM in a dedicated mobile router, and don't assume UK tethering rights and allowances carry over unchanged abroad. Our hotspot guide goes deeper if this is your main need.

Switching from Three to 1pMobile: is it worth it?

It is worth it when you have reliable EE signal, a lower future cost and no costly exit charge. Staying with Three makes sense when its reception is better, an early termination charge is unavoidable, or you use its perks. Moving also changes the radio network, so this is not just a cheaper plan on the same masts.

Before you leave, work through these steps in order:

  1. Test EE coverage with Ofcom at your main addresses and, if you can, with a temporary 1pMobile SIM before you move an important number.
  2. Check your Three minimum term and the early cancellation fee for your specific agreement. A saving at 1pMobile may not recover an exit charge quickly.
  3. Value what you would lose, especially Go Roam access, Three+ offers and any included entertainment period. Count what you actually use.
  4. Pick a realistic Boost for your data use, then compare its renewal cost over the same period with your actual Three payment schedule.
  5. Transfer your number when you are ready. For one UK number, text PAC to 65075 from Three and give the code to 1pMobile. Text INFO to 85075 for contract information, or STAC to 75075 if you don't want to keep the number. A PAC is normally valid for 30 days, and eligible transfers typically complete within one working day after the new provider accepts the code.

A completed PAC transfer normally ends the old mobile service; it does not erase an early termination charge, unpaid balance or separate handset finance. Do not cancel your old service manually before porting. See Ofcom's switching guidance and our number-switching walkthrough.

1pMobile vs Three: frequently asked questions

Is 1pMobile better than Three?

For flexible EE-based service, 1pMobile is often the better starting point. Three can win if its signal is stronger at your addresses or if its roaming, speed or rewards outweigh the full contract cost. Check coverage and how long you expect to stay before choosing.

Is 1pMobile on the Three network?

No. 1pMobile uses EE. Three is a separate retailer linked to VodafoneThree. Moving from Three to 1pMobile changes your underlying radio network.

Can I get a 25GB 1pMobile plan like Three's?

Not in our tracked range. 1pMobile's nearest Boosts are 10GB (smaller) and 50GB (larger), while Three has a 25GB card with a longer minimum term. Compare enough data and total cost instead of looking for an exact match.

Is the £7 Three 25GB deal really £7 a month for two years?

No. On the card we checked, £7 was the opening monthly payment and £328.20 was the full minimum contract cost, about £13.68 a month. Those figures were recorded on 29 October 2026 and can change, so check the live Three 25GB card and the customer agreement.

Are Three Complete plans faster than Lite+?

Not automatically. Standard Lite, Value and Complete are described as up to 100Mbps, while Lite+ includes Full Speed, and some marked Lite offers have it too. Check your own agreement and local reception.

Does 1pMobile include EU roaming?

Yes, on qualifying Boosts in selected European destinations. Included roaming data is the smaller of your UK allowance and 14GB. It is not 14GB on top of your allowance, and longer stays abroad are subject to fair use.

Does Three include EU roaming on Lite?

Generally not on newer Lite contracts, so you may need a Go Roam pass or daily charge. Value includes Go Roam in Europe and Complete covers wider destinations, with fair-use data limits on qualifying use. In the Republic of Ireland, Three's standard daily charge and 12GB Go Roam ceiling do not apply.

Does 1pMobile support eSIM and Wi-Fi Calling?

Yes. 1pMobile's own current guidance covers eSIM, VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling on compatible devices, so older comparison pages saying otherwise are out of date. Three offers these on eligible plans and phones too.

Is 1pMobile Classic PAYG the same as a Boost?

No. Classic PAYG is per-unit credit with a minimum-spend rule, while a Boost is a paid 30-day allowance. If you use data regularly, a bundle is easier to budget than the Classic 1p-per-unit headline.

Will I lose my number moving from Three to 1pMobile?

Normally no. Request a PAC from Three and give it to 1pMobile within its validity period. Check early cancellation charges and any separate device payments before you move.

Can I cancel a Three contract after a few months?

Usually yes, but ending it before the minimum term is up can trigger a large charge. A 30-day 1pMobile Boost and a 24-month Three agreement carry very different financial risk, even when the first payment looks similar.

Verdict: 1pMobile or Three?

Choose 1pMobile if EE works well where you spend your time, you don't need Three's add-ons, and you want to size your data up or down without a two-year agreement. Start with the 50GB Boost for regular use, the 100GB Boost for heavy use, or the full 1pMobile range for something smaller.

Choose Three if it is clearly more reliable at home or work, or if a Lite+, Value or Complete plan has a benefit you will really use. Compare its current retail SIMs by full minimum cost and exact contract terms. A 24-month commitment only pays off when the network and extras justify it.

DealPriceCheck compares selected UK SIM-only offers and may earn commission on eligible partner purchases. Prices, terms, coverage, roaming destinations and included extras may change. Confirm the current internal offer details and the provider's final contract summary before ordering.
