1pMobile vs spusu: Which EE-Network SIM Is Better?

Quick answer: 1pMobile and spusu both use EE's UK mobile network, but their bundles and billing rules are different. Choose a qualifying 1pMobile 30-day Boost if its data and roaming allowances suit you, or if you specifically want 1pMobile's separate classic PAYG option. Check spusu first if an equivalent flexible plan costs less or you make calls to eligible EU numbers from the UK. Neither brand guarantees better signal or speed simply because it uses EE. Compare the exact plan, not just the provider.

The deciding distinction: these are two retail providers, not two independent sets of mobile masts. If EE reception is poor at home or work, changing between 1pMobile and spusu may not fix it. If EE works well, compare the offer's usable data, calls, roaming and real payment schedule.

Are spusu and 1pMobile on the same network?

Yes. Both use EE's underlying network in the UK, so they're worth comparing if you know EE works where you live, study, work and travel. Switching between them doesn't move you onto Vodafone, O2 or Three.

Shared infrastructure doesn't mean identical service, though. A retail provider can have its own device compatibility rules, 5G arrangements, routing, Wi-Fi Calling implementation, roaming partners and network-management policies, and two phones on the same host network can perform differently indoors or at a busy station. Claims that the two always have exactly the same speed go further than the evidence supports without like-for-like tests.

How should you check EE reception before buying?

Use Ofcom's Map Your Mobile to check predicted EE 4G and 5G reception at home, work and other key places, looking at indoor predictions and not just national coverage percentages. A forecast can't guarantee signal through a particular wall or on your train.

If reliable calls matter, test your SIM before you move your main number. Make and receive calls and texts indoors, try data on your commute and check any banking or security messages you rely on. Our MVNO coverage and speeds guide explains host-network access versus service quality.

Which is cheaper, 1pMobile or spusu?

Neither is permanently cheaper at every allowance. Compare the lowest total cost of a plan that meets your needs, over the same period and with the same usage. A low entry price doesn't make a small allowance good value, and a high-data plan saves nothing if you leave most of it unused.

The 1pMobile offers and spusu offers show selected current plans and recorded verification dates. Open Full plan details for the data, price and commitment; then check the final conditions through the card's existing View Deal. The catalogue labels 1pMobile Boosts as 30-day products, while spusu describes its contracts as flexible monthly plans. Confirm the actual start, renewal and cancellation dates instead of assuming two labels mean identical billing schedules.

A like-for-like example: 1pMobile 5GB versus spusu 5

If you use about 5GB in the UK, compare the same domestic allowance before you compare prices. 1pMobile's published 5GB Boost includes 5GB of UK data and standard unlimited UK calls and texts; under its general Boost rule, you cannot roam on more data than your home allowance, even though the maximum roaming cap on larger Boosts is 14GB. So a 5GB Boost is not 5GB at home plus another 14GB abroad.

In the spusu 5 contract summary checked on 28 October 2026, the domestic allowance is 5GB, the separate EU roaming allowance is up to 3GB, and up to 500 minutes of eligible calls from the UK to EU countries are included. The product summary also describes standard unlimited UK calls and texts. These are named product conditions at the research date, not a permanent claim about every offer spusu sells.

Which matters more to you? For a holiday needing 4–5GB of eligible roaming, 1pMobile's 5GB Boost may fit better. For weekly calls from Britain to an included EU number, spusu 5 could save you extra calling charges. In either case, compare the live prices, destination list and the final exact plan before making the choice: 1pMobile offers and spusu offers.

How do you compare the real cost without chasing a promotion?

Choose a realistic period, such as six months. Record each renewal date and payment, any later price, usable data and the extras you would actually need. Also distinguish a genuine non-refundable joining fee from a payment credited after activation. A 30-day Boost does not automatically follow calendar months: twelve consecutive 30-day periods cover 360 days, not 365. Someone requiring uninterrupted service for a full 365-day year may need to pay for a thirteenth 30-day period. Check the exact dates rather than calling twelve renewals an annual price.

Illustrative example, not advertised prices: suppose plan A costs £7 per comparable billing period but the overseas calls you make cost an extra £4, while plan B costs £9 and includes calls to those same eligible numbers. Plan A costs £11 in that period; plan B costs £9. But if you make no overseas calls, A costs £7 and wins. This only works when the allowances, payment periods and eligible numbers really are comparable.

What is the difference between a 1pMobile Boost and classic PAYG?

1pMobile sells more than one kind of SIM product, and mixing them up is the easiest way to compare unfairly with spusu.

A 30-day Boost is a prepaid bundle with an allowance that runs for the stated 30 days and may renew. This is the product our current 1pMobile deal cards represent. Unlike Classic PAYG, a qualifying Boost includes a stated data allowance and UK calling/text benefits; check the chosen size rather than inferring features from the provider name. Check renewal settings, unused allowances and what happens if a renewal fails. Under 1pMobile's terms, a service with no active Boost can revert to its standard PAYG arrangement.

Classic PAYG charges for calls, texts and mobile data separately instead of buying an inclusive data Boost. Its published standard UK rates are 1p per minute, text and MB, but the ongoing spend condition matters more than the headline penny. Under terms updated on 24 July 2026, a customer who joined from 1 August 2026 and uses pure PAYG without a Boost must meet £10 of eligible spend per 90 days. If usage falls short, 1pMobile says it may deduct the difference from account credit, attempt an automatic top-up and potentially suspend or close the line if the required payment cannot be collected. Existing customers have different commitment periods depending on when they joined. Once a Boost ends, the account can revert to PAYG requirements. For an emergency number you rarely use, this is a material cost and number-retention risk, not a minor footnote.

So a barely used SIM isn't automatically free to keep active. If you want a backup or emergency number, read the exact PAYG terms, and don't assume a recurring Boost advertised through our site buys the separate Classic PAYG product.

1pMobile also markets prepaid annual products with data refreshed in shorter periods. That's a third payment model: not a cancellable monthly Boost and not a pay-per-use tariff. It may suit predictable use, but the upfront payment changes the comparison. Our PAYG vs SIM-only guide explains the differences.

Where does spusu fit?

spusu's tracked consumer offers are flexible monthly bundles with a stated allowance and recurring charge. For someone using a few gigabytes every month, the meaningful comparison is a spusu bundle against a 1pMobile Boost, not against classic 1p PAYG rates. Verify the precise billing day, cancellation notice and any initial charge. In a published spusu 20 contract summary reviewed on 28 October 2026, the amount paid at order equals the advertised monthly fee and is credited after the SIM is activated. The summary separately says there is no activation fee. That is an example for that product, not a universal promise for every spusu plan. If you are switching at the end of another contract, the same summary offers an activate-later window, but confirm the exact activation deadline for the product currently offered.

Which is better for roaming in Europe, 1pMobile or spusu?

1pMobile may give a more useful EU data allowance on a qualifying larger Boost, while spusu's limits differ sharply by plan. Don't choose either for a holiday on the UK gigabytes in its headline bundle.

On 1pMobile, qualifying Boosts can use data across eligible European roaming destinations subject to a 14GB fair-use cap on Boosts with a larger home allowance. A smaller UK allowance stays smaller abroad. There are also fair-use rules for prolonged roaming and charges beyond the included allowance, so the cap isn't a promise of indefinite free EU data.

spusu publishes separate roaming allowances for each tariff, rather than a single figure for the whole brand. For instance, the spusu 5 contract summary reviewed on 28 October 2026 gives 5GB in the UK and up to 3GB of EU roaming; the spusu 20 summary gives 20GB in the UK and up to 8GB of EU roaming, plus its stated calls and texts. Those are named, dated product examples, not timeless prices or limits for every spusu customer. A large UK allowance cannot safely be used as a substitute for the plan's roaming figure.

Question to ask1pMobilespusu
I buy a small home bundleYour UK allowance may be the effective limit before the general Boost cap mattersCheck the separate roaming allowance for that exact plan
I use a lot of data overseasCheck the eligible destination and the normal 14GB Boost ceilingPick a plan with enough specific roaming data, and don't infer it from UK data
I'm visiting Switzerland, the Channel Islands or another non-EU destinationCheck the operator's destination list, not the label "EU"Do the same, including whether the tariff treats the destination differently
I'll spend months outside the UKProlonged-roaming fair use can applyCheck long-stay, fair-use and destination rules before you travel

For a weekend of maps and messaging, a small roaming allowance may do. For a longer work trip with video calls or hotspot use, extra roaming data may outweigh a lower UK price. On 1pMobile, usage beyond the included Boost roaming cap may draw on chargeable PAYG credit, so an enabled payment method or leftover credit can matter. On spusu, check the separate roaming allowance and overage rules for your exact destination. Do not assume tethering abroad is permitted just because UK tethering works: check the chosen product's roaming and device rules. Compare your trip first, then see current 1pMobile offers or spusu offers. If neither meets your destination needs, our EU roaming SIM guide covers other networks.

Are international calls better on spusu or 1pMobile?

spusu deserves an early look if you dial eligible EU telephone numbers from the UK. Published contract summaries for spusu 5 and spusu 20 specify up to 500 minutes to eligible EU countries. That is not a worldwide allowance, not proof that every product carries exactly 500 minutes, and not automatically coverage for every special number, mobile or landline. Check the country and number type on the actual plan; calls to Turkey or India must not be treated as included merely because they are international.

1pMobile's ordinary UK call allowances don't automatically include international calls from the UK. Costs depend on destination and number type and may use separately purchased credit or another calling arrangement. That doesn't make 1pMobile worse for everyone: if you call friends on WhatsApp, Signal or FaceTime Audio over Wi-Fi or data, you may not need international minutes at all.

Which examples change the winner?

Is spusu or 1pMobile faster on 4G and 5G?

Neither can be called the national speed winner just because both are on EE. Both advertise 4G and 5G, and spusu's contract summaries describe unrestricted 4G/5G speeds on relevant plans. An uncapped tariff isn't a guaranteed download speed, guaranteed network priority or identical access to every advanced EE feature.

If you rely on mobile data for work, compare more than one speed-test screenshot. Test at the same address and time on a compatible handset, including upload quality, call stability, latency and evening congestion. If you want 5G specifically, check availability for your phone model and area. For ordinary browsing, reliable 4G can beat unreliable 5G.

For tethering or replacing home broadband, check each tariff's data-use policy, permitted devices and fair use. Some 1pMobile unlimited products are subject to a published 500GB personal-usage policy; that is not a claim that every Boost has a 500GB allowance or that your connection will be cut off at precisely 500GB. Neither provider's ordinary phone-SIM marketing alone guarantees that a permanent router subscription is suitable.

Which works better for eSIM, Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE?

Both offer eSIM, Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling on qualifying handsets, so none is automatically an exclusive advantage. Crucially, 1pMobile's current official eSIM guidance supports both new joiners and existing customers converting from a physical SIM. Its published terms also describe a charge for some replacement physical SIMs or eSIMs, which is different from ordering an eligible new eSIM at sign-up. For spusu, verify the plan and handset before relying on eSIM or Wi-Fi Calling. The real test is your precise phone, product and activation route.

Older competitor articles sometimes present eSIM as a spusu-only advantage. That's out of date as a blanket claim, because 1pMobile now offers eSIM. Even so, "eSIM available" on a website doesn't prove every PAYG, annual, replacement and new SIM can be activated the same way.

Check these before you order:

  1. New eSIM or conversion? A new account, a physical-SIM conversion and a replacement can have different processes or charges.
  2. Handset compatibility? An unlocked phone can have eSIM hardware and still face carrier-profile or Wi-Fi Calling restrictions.
  3. 4G Calling (VoLTE)? Older phones may support 4G data and still fail to register for voice after the 3G shutdowns.
  4. Wi-Fi Calling indoors? Test outgoing and incoming calls and texts, not just whether a switch appears in Settings.
  5. Security SMS? If banking codes are critical, test incoming messages before you transfer an important number. Forum reports are worth investigating, but they don't prove every spusu account fails to receive them.

See our Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE guide and UK eSIM support guide.

Which is safer for controlling your mobile bill?

Both have ways to limit unexpected charges, but through different account arrangements. With 1pMobile, understand when a Boost renews, when the service falls back to standard PAYG, what balance remains and which out-of-plan uses can use credit. With spusu, check the plan's optional spending cap and how usage beyond your allowance is billed. A published spusu contract summary describes a customer-controlled cap and separate out-of-allowance charging, and it doesn't mean every customer has a £0 cap by default.

If you're buying for an older relative, or someone who mustn't accidentally spend money abroad, ask whether the service will stop data, charge out of bundle, allow a top-up or block premium and international numbers when the limit is reached. A lower recurring price isn't a win if a misconfigured account causes a large bill. Our SIM-only spending caps guide explains these controls across providers.

How do customer support and number transfers compare?

An EE-network badge or a low price doesn't tell you how quickly a provider will fix a billing, eSIM or porting problem. Check the support channels for your plan and whether you can reach a person when something goes wrong, and don't treat unverified online anecdotes as customer-service rankings.

If you depend on a number for banking or work, test your replacement SIM with a temporary number before porting if your phone allows. To keep your UK number, text PAC to 65075 and give the code to your new provider, and text INFO to 85075 to check your contract position. If you deliberately don't want the old number, STAC to 75075 is the alternative. Your old operator normally closes the line through the switching process, and early-exit charges on an existing contract may still apply.

See our guide to switching and keeping your number. Moving between two retailers that both use EE is still a provider switch, not an internal tariff change.

Who should choose 1pMobile, and who should choose spusu?

Choose 1pMobile if

Choose spusu if

Hold off if EE is unreliable where you live, neither has confirmed a must-have service, or the only apparent saving comes from comparing incompatible terms. A different host network may serve you better than another EE-based brand.

If 1pMobile fits: compare current 1pMobile Boost cards, open Full plan details and use the chosen card's existing View Deal button. The cards compare selected 30-day Boosts, not a specific Classic PAYG or prepaid annual checkout. Do not assume that buying one product gives you the terms of another.

If spusu fits better: review current spusu SIM-only cards. Compare the actual UK allowance, included roaming GB, eligible EU minutes and any credited first payment. Open Full plan details and use that card's existing View Deal route for the final terms. Neither provider should be recommended when the other offers a better fit for your usage.

Work in this order: EE signal where you need it, your calls and data, roaming and handset compatibility, renewal and total cost, then the exact plan's checkout. The right SIM is the one that works for you, not the logo on today's cheapest banner.

How we compared 1pMobile and spusu

We compared each brand's relevant products and published operator terms, checked Ofcom's switching and coverage information, and examined the current selected offer cards on DealPriceCheck. We have not conducted independent side-by-side mobile-speed, customer-service or indoor-coverage tests, so we do not award either brand a fictional network-performance victory. The main comparison is between appropriate 1pMobile Boost products and spusu flexible bundles. Classic PAYG and annual 1pMobile products are explained where they materially change a buyer's decision, but they are not presented as checkout options on today's Boost cards.

1pMobile vs spusu: frequently asked questions

Which is better, 1pMobile or spusu?

It depends on your usage. 1pMobile suits you if you want a simple 30-day Boost, up to 14GB of EU roaming data on a qualifying Boost or a separate classic PAYG option. spusu suits you if its flexible plan costs less for your data or you regularly call eligible EU numbers from the UK. Both use EE, so check local EE reception first.

Will switching from 1pMobile to spusu improve a poor EE signal?

Not necessarily. Both are EE-based. Their features and performance can differ, but if the main problem is a weak EE radio signal in your building, a different underlying network may be the more useful change. Check Ofcom's indoor prediction and test locally before porting.

Are spusu and 1pMobile the same company?

No. They're separate UK retail providers that use EE-based connectivity, and each sets its own prices, account terms, customer support and feature eligibility.

Which is cheaper, spusu or 1pMobile?

Neither is consistently cheaper at every allowance. Compare current plans with similar usable data and the same period, then add the cost of international calls or extra roaming data you'd actually need.

Is spusu faster than 1pMobile?

Not provably. Both run on EE, and neither can be called faster nationally without like-for-like tests. Real speeds depend on your location, handset, congestion and plan terms, so test at the places and times you use data.

Does buying a DealPriceCheck 1pMobile deal mean I get Classic PAYG?

No. Our confirmed tracked 1pMobile cards are for selected 30-day Boosts. Classic PAYG charges by usage and has its own minimum-spend requirements, including the £10 per 90 days rule for qualifying new joiners from 1 August 2026. Check the exact product before ordering.

Can I get an eSIM from both?

Both advertise eSIM for eligible devices and customers. Confirm your exact product and phone, and whether you're activating a new number or converting an existing SIM. Old claims that only spusu offers eSIM are unreliable.

Which is better for EU roaming?

For qualifying 1pMobile Boosts, up to 14GB of eligible EU roaming data may be usable, limited by your home allowance and fair-use terms. spusu sets a separate allowance on each plan, which may be lower. Check the exact country and tariff before you travel.

Does spusu include international calls?

Qualifying spusu plans include calls to specified EU countries, subject to minute and number-type limits. It isn't a worldwide calling benefit, and international calling from the UK is different from roaming abroad.

Can I use Wi-Fi Calling with 1pMobile or spusu?

Both offer it on supported devices and plans. You need a working Wi-Fi connection and compatible handset settings, and you should check 4G Calling too, especially on older phones.

Is spusu's first payment an extra activation fee?

Not in the published spusu 5 and spusu 20 contract summaries reviewed for this article. They describe a payment equal to the monthly fee at order which is credited after activation, and separately say there is no activation fee. Confirm the ordering terms of the plan you actually buy.

Can I keep my existing UK number when switching?

Normally, yes. Text PAC to 65075, give the code to the new provider and let the transfer complete. Check any exit charges first and don't cancel the old line separately.

DealPriceCheck compares selected UK SIM offers, not every available tariff. Prices, eligibility, included features and destination rules can change, so check each card and the final provider terms before you buy. Some tracked links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.
