Unlimited PAYG SIM Deals in the UK: Prepaid Plans Worth Comparing

Yes, you can buy unlimited mobile data on pay as you go in the UK. Networks including Lyca Mobile, Lebara, Asda Mobile, iD Mobile, Three, EE and Vodafone have published unlimited-data options within their PAYG or prepaid ranges. But an unlimited 30-day SIM is not automatically a PAYG product, and PAYG does not always mean the next payment is manual. The useful comparison is what you pay upfront, whether the bundle renews, and what happens when you stop paying.

If prepaid control matters, start with the qualifying PAYG comparison below and the provider distinctions in this guide. If your priority is simply unlimited UK data without a long contract, also compare the separately labelled 30-day options. They may give you a wider choice, but their payment rules can be different. You can browse all current unlimited SIM-only deals if flexibility is less important than the ongoing price.

Compare unlimited PAYG SIM deals

We keep two separate groups because calling every monthly unlimited tariff “PAYG” would mislead shoppers. A provider may sell both a prepaid unlimited bundle and a recurring unlimited SIM, sometimes on the same network but under different checkout and renewal terms.

Current unlimited PAYG bundles

We only show offers with a verified prepaid or PAYG classification in the catalogue.

No verified PAYG bundles to show

There are no currently verified unlimited PAYG bundle records in our catalogue.

Selected providers — not whole of market. We do not label a rolling plan as PAYG without an explicit verified catalogue record.

If the PAYG section has no verified offers to display, that is a gap in our classified catalogue, not evidence that UK operators have stopped selling prepaid unlimited data. For a direct route to a participating operator, explore Lyca Mobile’s SIM deals, then select its actual 30-day unlimited PAYG product and check the renewal conditions. This confirmed partner link goes to Lyca's general site; it is not a product-specific checkout.

Unlimited 30-day alternatives

These are separate unlimited rolling SIM-only plans. They are not labelled PAYG unless the catalogue explicitly confirms that classification.

These alternatives are useful when you want the ability to change plans without a year-long commitment. A rolling plan is still a recurring arrangement, so check its payment method, credit-check requirements and cancellation rules. For more options by contract term, see no-contract and 30-day SIM deals.

Which UK networks actually sell unlimited PAYG data?

The important word is product, not brand. Several networks have an unlimited PAYG option and a different monthly or fixed-term unlimited product. The following distinctions come from the operators’ own published PAYG, plan or help pages; they are not a live price ranking.

NetworkWhat its published range supportsThe buying detail that matters
Lyca MobileAn unlimited-data plan in its 30-day PAYG rangeChoose the actual 30-day product, not a separately advertised 12- or 24-month offer; check renewal, promotional eligibility and the unlimited-data fair-use terms.
LebaraUnlimited plans are available within its prepaid/top-up-credit system as well as its SIM-only rangeConfirm the exact top-up-credit option at checkout. Lebara says prepaid plans renew automatically when the balance is sufficient; switch off auto-renew if you only need one pack.
Asda MobileUnlimited bundles are offered within its no-contract PAYG rangeCheck the actual unlimited PAYG bundle rather than an Asda 12- or 24-month SIM contract; published unlimited bundles have different speed ceilings.
iD MobileAn explicitly marketed 30-day unlimited PAYG SIM without a credit checkDo not confuse it with iD’s separate 1-, 12- and 24-month pay-monthly unlimited SIM plans, for which iD says a credit check is required.
ThreeAn unlimited PAYG Data Pack, with a choice of standard purchase or auto-renew arrangementsPublished speed ceilings differ between its standard and auto-renew PAYG packs. Unlimited GB does not mean uncapped Mbps.
EEAn unlimited option in its 30-day PAYG plan rangeIts Saver arrangement adds automatic recurring payment; do not assume every PAYG checkout works identically.
VodafoneAn Unlimited Pay as you go BundleIt renews every 30 days from sufficient credit unless you opt out. Vodafone's published instructions say to call 2345 to opt out; check this on activation.

Two common lookalikes: giffgaff currently separates its unlimited monthly rolling plan from its fixed-data PAYG range. Similarly, an unlimited SMARTY or 1pMobile 30-day card in our comparison should not be called verified PAYG unless its individual record confirms that classification. These can still be good buys; the distinction is about accurate labelling, not quality.

For options available through DealPriceCheck's partner routes, compare Lyca Mobile's recorded plans or Lebara's recorded plans. The provider hub may also contain rolling or fixed-term offers: open the exact plan details before using View Deal and do not treat the label “30-day rolling” as independent proof of PAYG. Our live cards show the offers and prices actually held in the catalogue; an operator's PAYG product is not automatically a verified PAYG catalogue record.

PAYG unlimited or rolling unlimited? Follow the payment, not the name

A prepaid unlimited pack generally buys a defined service period in advance. A rolling SIM generally repeats its service and payment until you cancel according to its terms. But there is an overlap: a prepaid bundle can auto-renew, and a rolling plan can be paid without a lengthy fixed-term commitment.

QuestionTrue prepaid/PAYG bundleRolling unlimited SIM
How does the next period begin?By a new purchase or an enabled auto-renew arrangementUsually by an ongoing scheduled renewal
Where does the money come from?PAYG balance, a payment card or another permitted prepaid method, depending on the productUsually a saved payment method or regular bill
Can you stop after the first period?Usually without buying another bundle, once automatic renewal is disabled where applicableUsually by cancelling or switching under the provider’s notice rules
Will the SIM number remain active if you pause data purchases?Subject to the provider’s PAYG activity and account rulesDo not assume service continues after cancelling a rolling plan
Is there a credit check?Usually not for prepaid PAYG; confirm the exact productDepends on the provider and whether the service is classified as pay monthly

The day-after-expiry question

Before you pay, ask: “What happens on the first day after this allowance expires?” The answer may be a renewed bundle charge, an attempt to use existing top-up credit, ordinary pay-per-use charges, loss of mobile data until you buy another pack, or another outcome set out in the terms. There is no reliable universal rule for every operator.

That is particularly important if you keep credit on the SIM for emergencies. Lebara: prepaid plans can auto-renew from sufficient balance, and online buyers can disable this in MyLebara. Vodafone: Unlimited PAYG bundles automatically renew if sufficient credit is available; Vodafone currently directs customers to 2345 to opt out. Its rules also distinguish an expired or failed bundle from ordinary PAYG usage, so check whether you will fall back to chargeable PAYG rates or need an active qualifying bundle to use the service. If you only want one period, turn off renewal at activation and check the remaining credit and service rules.

The real cost of paying as you go for unlimited data

The right comparison is not “£X PAYG versus £Y monthly” without context. Compare the actual periods in which you need service and every payment that will be taken.

Suppose a fictional unlimited bundle costs £12 for its first 30-day period, then £24 for each further period. Using it for three consecutive 30-day periods costs £60, not £36. This is only a worked arithmetic example, not a current offer from any network. For a rolling alternative, count the payments that arise before your cancellation takes effect, as well as any setup charges.

A second example shows why flexibility has value. You need mobile broadband on your phone for one 30-day period, then will not need much data for two more periods. A prepaid product that genuinely lets you switch off repeat purchases may cost one bundle payment; an uncancelled rolling service may cost three. Conversely, if you want uninterrupted unlimited service all year, stopping and restarting packs can be inconvenient, and a suitable rolling plan might cost less overall.

Compare like with like: some packs last 30 days and others one calendar month. Do not assume twelve 30-day purchases deliver a full 365-day year. Likewise, a “first month” promotion may have an activation deadline, new-customer restrictions or a different repeat price. Check the final order and renewal screens, not just the headline saving.

Three traps that can change which unlimited PAYG SIM is best

1. Unlimited data can still have a speed ceiling

Three's PAYG range illustrates this: its one-month and auto-renew Data Packs currently publish different speed ceilings, even for Unlimited, so choosing auto-renew can change performance as well as the price. Check the current cap shown for the exact pack rather than treating any quoted Mbps figure as permanent. Asda also distinguishes unlimited offers by speed tier. A speed cap limits how fast data can be transferred; it does not itself set a monthly GB allowance. Being connected to 5G does not necessarily remove a product-level cap.

If you work through a hotspot, upload large files or depend on frequent video calls, check your specific pack’s allowed speeds before choosing a cheaper or supposedly more flexible version. Our UK SIM-only speed-cap guide explains the practical difference between network congestion and a tariff ceiling.

2. “Unlimited” does not cover every use of the SIM

UK unlimited data can still be subject to personal-use and fair-use policies, restrictions on certain devices or patterns of use, and separate roaming allowances. A legitimate heavy-use phone customer is not automatically breaking the rules, but neither is every unlimited plan permission to run an always-on household router.

For the details, see what unlimited mobile data really means and our SIMs for hotspot and tethering guide. If the SIM will go directly into a tablet or router, verify that the specific PAYG product permits that device and connection method.

3. Unlimited UK data is not unlimited data abroad

Roaming allowances are separate from domestic unlimited use. Three’s PAYG pack range, for example, publishes different inclusive roaming data amounts for different packs. Lyca, Lebara and other providers also attach roaming eligibility and data caps to their particular bundles. Do not infer a country, allowance or international-calling benefit from “unlimited data” alone.

If you need to travel, check the destination, data limit, fair-use terms and any requirement to activate the service in the UK first. Our EU roaming SIM comparison is a separate buying route; it should not be confused with unlimited PAYG coverage in the UK.

Which type should you choose? Four realistic buying situations

Your situationBetter starting pointWhy
You need lots of UK data for a short stay or a temporary replacement phoneA verified prepaid unlimited packPaying upfront can be convenient if the pack is valid for the full stay and repeat purchases are under your control.
You use unlimited data on the same phone every dayCompare 30-day rolling and prepaid side by sideRepeated PAYG purchases may cost more or require more attention; network reliability and ongoing price matter more than the label.
You have a poor credit history or do not want a pay-monthly credit checkA specifically described no-credit-check PAYG productDo not assume a different monthly product from the same provider has the same application requirements.
You only use mobile data occasionally and mostly rely on Wi-FiA smaller prepaid bundle or classic PAYG creditPaying for unlimited when you barely use data usually wastes the allowance.

If your busiest recent period is well below a large fixed allowance, unlimited may be unnecessary. Use our guide to how much mobile data you need or browse 100GB+ SIM deals before paying for an allowance you may not need.

Before pressing View Deal: a six-point PAYG check

  1. Product identity: Does the final order identify a genuinely prepaid/PAYG unlimited pack rather than a similarly named monthly contract? Never buy a rolling card assuming it is prepaid merely because it lasts 30 days.
  2. Next payment: Is renewal on by default, optional, or absent — and what exact action disables it?
  3. Price after the offer: What is charged for a second and third period, and are you eligible for the introductory rate?
  4. Usable connection: Is the underlying network suitable at home and work, and is there a tariff speed ceiling? Use Ofcom’s Map Your Mobile checker for a postcode-based starting point.
  5. Allowed use: Are phone tethering, your intended device, UK usage pattern and roaming needs covered by this particular plan?
  6. Exit and number: How do you stop the next purchase, and what inactivity rules apply if you keep the underlying PAYG number?

If two offers remain suitable, choose on actual total cost and coverage, not the number of “unlimited” labels. A cheaper plan on an unreliable network is not a saving.

Keep your number when moving to a PAYG SIM

You can usually take an existing UK mobile number to a new PAYG provider. For one number, text PAC to 65075 from the SIM you are leaving, then give the code to your new network. Ofcom says a PAC is valid for 30 days, and switching normally completes within one working day after the new provider receives the code. If you do not want to keep the number, ask for a STAC instead. See Ofcom’s mobile switching guidance or our number-switching guide.

Check any outstanding obligation on the old service before switching. A new PAYG purchase does not cancel a separate fixed-term contract automatically, and your old PAYG balance may be handled under its own terms.

Unlimited PAYG SIM FAQs

Can I really get unlimited data on PAYG without a contract?

Yes. Several UK operators sell unlimited-data PAYG or prepaid packs that do not require a long minimum-term mobile service contract. However, the exact product can still have an auto-renew setting and fair-use conditions. A plan merely lasting 30 days is not proof that it is PAYG.

Which unlimited PAYG SIM is cheapest in the UK?

There is no reliable permanent winner: introductory prices, standard renewal charges and availability change. Compare the exact prepaid unlimited checkout price for the period you need, then any repeat-payment price. If our PAYG block has no verified cards, use the operator distinctions above rather than interpreting the empty list as a whole-market ranking. For uninterrupted use, also compare the separate rolling alternatives.

Can I buy an unlimited PAYG bundle just once?

Often, yes, but check auto-renew before paying. Some bundles repeat automatically while sufficient credit remains or through a saved card. Turning auto-renew off is not the same as cancelling your phone number, and removing a SIM from a handset does not necessarily stop further payments.

Is PAYG unlimited cheaper than an unlimited monthly SIM?

Not necessarily. PAYG may be worth more to someone who wants to pay upfront and pause purchases. A rolling unlimited SIM may be cheaper for continuous use. Compare renewal charges and the same duration of service; do not compare a discounted first PAYG purchase with a rolling plan’s standard ongoing price.

Does an unlimited PAYG SIM need a credit check or Direct Debit?

Prepaid PAYG options are commonly available without a credit check or Direct Debit, but the exact checkout governs. For example, iD distinguishes its no-credit-check PAYG product from its credit-checked pay-monthly unlimited SIMs. A linked payment card for an optional auto-renew feature is not necessarily the same as a pay-monthly credit agreement.

Can I use unlimited PAYG data as home broadband?

Only if the specific pack permits your device and usage pattern, and the signal and speed are suitable. Occasional phone tethering is not equivalent to permission for a permanently installed router. Read the relevant device and fair-use terms before depending on it for an entire household.

What happens if I stop topping up an unlimited PAYG SIM?

The unlimited bundle will expire or fail to renew under its stated rules, but the consequences for calls, texts, remaining credit and keeping your number vary. Some providers allow ordinary PAYG use after a pack ends; others impose different access or activity requirements. Check the provider’s specific inactivity policy before leaving the SIM unused for months.

The next step: pick the right payment arrangement, then compare prices

If you specifically want prepaid unlimited data, confirm the product's PAYG classification and how to prevent unwanted repeat purchases. Explore Lyca Mobile's plans through our partner link and choose its qualifying 30-day prepaid product, or check Lebara's recorded SIM offers while verifying any prepaid option against its own checkout. Neither general route guarantees a particular PAYG bundle: the product must match your purchase requirements.

If you mainly want unlimited data with the freedom to change providers, use the rolling alternatives already displayed on this page or compare current unlimited SIM deals. Choose a specific live card and use View Deal only after checking the provider’s final renewal, speed, fair-use and coverage terms.

DealPriceCheck compares selected UK offers, not every operator or product, and may earn a commission from some partner links. Prices, offers, availability and plan classifications can change; live card verification dates and the provider’s checkout terms take precedence.
