SIM Deals with EU Roaming
UK SIM deals with EU roaming let you use included mobile services in eligible European destinations without buying a standard roaming pass. Compare live SIM-only prices, UK data, contract length, network and eSIM support below. The data you can use abroad may be lower than your UK allowance, so check the exact destination and roaming limit before choosing a deal.

How to compare UK SIM deals for European travel
Start with three questions: Will it work where I am travelling? How much data can I use there? What will it cost over the time I keep it? A large UK data allowance is not always a good roaming deal, and the lowest introductory monthly price is not necessarily the lowest overall cost.
1. Match the roaming zone to your whole itinerary
Check the actual countries covered by each eligible plan. The phrase “EU roaming” does not mean all of Europe: Switzerland and Turkey are outside the EU, while Monaco, the Channel Islands and other territories can also be treated differently between providers. A stop in two countries means checking two destinations — even if you only need mobile data during the transfer.
For example, Tesco Mobile's Home From Home service includes destinations beyond the EU, but it is not a destination list shared by every UK mobile network. Use the operator's latest country checker for the specific tariff, particularly if your trip involves a border or non-EU country. Under current UK rules, surcharge-free EU/EEA roaming is not guaranteed; it is a benefit provided under the terms of eligible plans.
2. Compare usable roaming data, not just UK gigabytes
For a capped plan that draws roaming data from your domestic bundle, a practical starting calculation is:
Included data you can use abroad ≈ the smaller of your remaining UK allowance and the applicable roaming cap.
For instance, if a hypothetical plan provides 2GB in the UK and its provider has a 5GB European ceiling, the plan does not suddenly contain 5GB for the holiday. Conversely, a hypothetical 100GB UK plan limited to 5GB in Europe may only include 5GB there. Treat a card's roaming figure as a ceiling, not as extra data added to the UK bundle, unless the exact contract explicitly says otherwise. Rollover, separate roaming bundles, promotions and country exceptions require checking the detailed terms.
For a seven-day trip, 5GB works out at roughly 0.7GB per day if you spread it evenly. That is a budgeting calculation, not a prediction of your usage. Download maps, videos and playlists over Wi-Fi beforehand; video calls, tethering, automatic photo uploads and streaming can consume a limited roaming allowance quickly.
Taking two trips close together? The data may not reset when you cross a border or return home. giffgaff defines its current cap per plan, while Talkmobile describes its newer-customer allowance per billing month. Check when the allowance renews, especially if the trip crosses your usual plan renewal date.
3. Compare the whole cost, including any roaming passes
Use the live Contract and Data filters and Sort control to shortlist suitable plans, then inspect Full plan details for the introductory price, later monthly payment, minimum-term total, any price changes and cancellation conditions. Sort order and the headline monthly price alone cannot tell you the cheapest cost over your intended ownership period. For a one-off trip, a 30-day rolling plan may provide welcome flexibility; for regular travel, the cost of paid roaming on an otherwise cheaper plan can add up.
This example is illustrative maths only — not a current provider price:
| Hypothetical choice over 12 months | Calculation | Added cost |
|---|---|---|
| A SIM with included roaming costs £2/month more | £2 × 12 | £24 |
| A cheaper UK SIM needs a £3/day travel pass for six days | £3 × 6 | £18 |
| That same SIM needs paid roaming for 12 days | £3 × 12 | £36 |
On these assumptions, included roaming breaks even at eight paid days and becomes cheaper from nine days. It is only a fair comparison if the UK service, contract term and other fees suit you equally. Replace the example amounts with the current tariff and pass prices; use all SIM-only deals to compare alternative UK plans before committing.
Which UK SIMs include EU roaming — and what do the limits mean?
This is a provider-policy snapshot verified on 19 October 2026, not a permanent ranking or a static deals table. These providers have eligible offers in the DealPriceCheck live comparison, but not necessarily every tariff from the same brand includes identical roaming. Each link leads to official provider information; the individual offer terms still take priority.
| Provider and official terms | What a buyer should understand |
|---|---|
| iD Mobile | At this check date, a promotion running from 1 October 2024 until further notice lets customers use their full UK data allowance in Roam Free destinations. When that promotion ends, the usual newer-customer policy is up to 30GB of their UK data; iD expressly excludes Ireland from its normal roaming fair-use cap. Neither the standard 30GB ceiling nor the promotion gives a 15GB UK plan extra data. Recheck the promotion and country conditions before ordering. |
| Tesco Mobile | Home From Home includes use of UK plan allowances in its stated destinations rather than a simple small roaming-GB ceiling. Its fair-use rules for prolonged or predominantly overseas use still matter, particularly for longer stays. |
| O2 | Its Europe Zone has a 25GB data limit for larger UK pay-monthly allowances; a smaller UK bundle remains smaller. O2's limit does not automatically apply to giffgaff or Tesco merely because they use the O2 network. |
| giffgaff | Eligible plans have up to 5GB per plan, or less if the UK plan is smaller. The 5GB is not per trip, and maintaining UK roaming eligibility matters. |
| Talkmobile | Customers joining or upgrading from 14 March 2023 have the normal 5GB per billing month allowance in included destinations. Older legacy contracts can differ, so judge a new deal against the new-customer rule. |
| Asda Mobile | Included EU data is up to 5GB, or the remaining UK allowance if lower. The promise to use your plan in eligible European destinations must not be read as unlimited European data on a high-GB UK tariff. |
| 1pMobile | Its stated roaming ceiling is 14GB per Boost, subject to the amount actually purchased and long-stay conditions. A 10GB Boost does not become 14GB abroad. |
| Lyca Mobile | The included EU allowance is specific to the bundle, so a larger roaming entitlement advertised for one plan cannot be carried across to another. Use the exact live card and final bundle terms, not the provider's biggest advertised roaming figure. |
| spusu | The EU data allocation is also tariff-specific. A dated example from the live comparison is a 5GB UK “spusu 5” offer displaying 3GB EU roaming on 19 October 2026; confirm the live plan and its contract summary before buying. |
| Vodafone | Qualifying SuperMobile plan tiers include European or broader worldwide roaming with a published 25GB limit. This is not a rule for every Vodafone SIM or Vodafone-based brand; the exact plan tier and destination zone matter. |
There is no single permanent winner for the most EU roaming data. The largest headline ceiling may not be usable on a smaller UK bundle, Tesco's Home From Home works differently from a fixed-GB cap, and iD's full-allowance benefit is currently promotional. The right comparison is the usable data on the plan you can actually buy for the countries and dates of your trip.
The cost after a limit also matters. As checked on 19 October 2026, giffgaff's published EU terms stated 10p/MB beyond the included data. Just 100MB would cost £10 at that rate unless you instead use an eligible new plan or add-on. By contrast, O2 says that customers who reach its Europe Zone limit or exhaust their UK data must buy a data Bolt On to continue using data. One provider's after-limit rule is not a universal roaming charge: establish whether your exact plan charges per MB, needs an add-on or stops further data.
Choose by your travel pattern, not a permanent “best SIM” label
| Your situation | What to prioritise in the live deals | The common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| A short city break in an included country | Lowest suitable total cost, easy activation and enough actual EU data | Paying for a huge UK allowance that remains capped abroad |
| Several trips within a few months | Country list, billing/plan renewal dates, roaming eligibility and annual cost | Assuming the EU data cap restarts at every airport arrival |
| A fortnight of remote work or hotspot use | Confirmed usable European GB, tethering policy and a spend cap | Treating “unlimited UK data” as unlimited abroad |
| One holiday, with no long-term UK SIM need | Contract → 30-day rolling, plus cancellation and activation timing | Joining a lengthy contract purely to cover a single trip |
| Mainly UK usage with occasional travel | Cost of the UK SIM versus the total paid-pass days you genuinely need | Paying a year-round roaming premium without doing the maths |

Before you order: a practical roaming checklist
- Confirm every destination. Look up the provider's exact zone for the countries on your route. Switzerland, Turkey, islands, border areas and ferries deserve particular attention. Ireland can have a different rule: iD expressly excludes it from the network's normal roaming data fair-use cap.
- Confirm data, calls, texts and the overage rule. Check how much of the UK allowance is left, the European fair-use ceiling, whether it renews during your trip and the price or add-on after the limit. Check which calls and texts are included while abroad, especially calls to a third country.
- Check service activation and UK eligibility. Confirm that the new SIM will be activated in time, roaming is enabled on both the account and handset where needed, and the provider's UK-usage or residency rules suit your situation.
- Check UK coverage and your device. A plan that works in Europe still needs reliable service at home. For eSIM, confirm phone compatibility and that your selected offer actually supports eSIM — the digital SIM format does not increase roaming data.
- Reduce accidental charges. Set an appropriate bill or spending limit; download offline maps; consider turning off background app updates and mobile data on a ferry. Ofcom explains roaming text alerts, border-network connections and maritime charges.
- Check the switch. Read the minimum-term and early-exit information. If you want to retain your UK number, Ofcom's Text to Switch guidance explains how to request a PAC by texting PAC to 65075 and give it to the new provider.
When a live offer passes those checks, open its Full plan details, confirm the exact tariff and roaming conditions, then use the existing View Deal button for the provider checkout. Prices and links should come from the live card, not from a fixed editorial recommendation.
EU roaming SIM deals: frequently asked questions
Is EU roaming free on UK SIM-only deals?
It can be included at no additional roaming charge on an eligible plan, but it is not guaranteed for every UK SIM. Since Brexit, UK customers do not have an automatic EU/EEA right to surcharge-free roaming. The providers in this live comparison have eligible included-roaming offers; each still has its own zone, data rules and potential out-of-bundle charges. GOV.UK explains the position.
Is EU roaming included on every plan from these networks?
No. A network may have both qualifying and non-qualifying plans. The current DealPriceCheck list is intended to show selected offers with included EU roaming, rather than standard paid-pass-only plans; it is not whole-of-market. Confirm the individual tariff and countries before paying, because a roaming badge does not guarantee unlimited data or coverage across all European destinations.
Which UK SIM has the largest included European data allowance?
It depends on the specific UK plan, destination and currently applicable policy. In the dated comparison above, iD's standard ceiling is 30GB, while O2 and qualifying Vodafone plans have a 25GB ceiling; Tesco does not use the same simple small-GB cap. iD also has an explicitly temporary full-allowance promotion. A provider's ceiling is not a guarantee that a smaller UK plan contains that many gigabytes.
Does unlimited UK data mean unlimited EU roaming?
No. A SIM with unlimited domestic data may still have a much lower European limit or extra fair-use restrictions. Check the specific plan's roaming data, the renewal period and whether any larger entitlement is a temporary promotion.
Is Switzerland or Turkey covered by a UK SIM with EU roaming?
Not automatically. Neither country is an EU member, and providers' zones differ. Check the exact country rather than assuming that “Europe” means the EU plus all neighbouring countries.
Can I get a 30-day eSIM with EU roaming included?
Yes, if the chosen deal supports both features. Use the existing contract-length and eSIM filters. A 30-day rolling UK eSIM is still a UK mobile tariff, not necessarily the same product as a travel-only data eSIM. For broader comparisons, see no-contract SIM deals and UK eSIM deals.
Is calling another country from the UK included in EU roaming?
No, not simply because roaming is included. Calling a foreign number from the UK is international calling; using your UK SIM while in an eligible European country is roaming. Prices and included minutes can differ. Tesco Mobile explicitly distinguishes these in its Home From Home terms.
