giffgaff SIM-only deals

Compare selected giffgaff SIM-only deals on O2's network, including flexible monthly rolling plans and 18-month contracts. A larger data allowance can come with an eligibility deadline or a longer commitment, and unlimited UK data does not mean unlimited EU roaming. Use the current cards below to compare allowances, total payments and contract terms before choosing.

Which giffgaff SIM-only deal should you choose?

Choose the commitment first, then the data allowance. If you know O2 works reliably at home and you expect to stay for a long time, an 18-month plan can offer more data for the money. If you may move, travel for an extended period or need to change networks, a monthly rolling plan can be worth paying more for. Check your recent data usage before comparing plans with the same commitment.

Use Full plan details on a matching giffgaff card to check its allowance, commitment and promotion, then View Deal to continue through that card's existing purchase route. If O2 reception is your non-negotiable requirement, compare other O2-network SIM deals rather than moving to a different network. If your priority is a shorter commitment or a roaming allowance that better fits your trip, and you are willing to test EE coverage, compare 1pMobile's EE-network plans and Lyca Mobile's EE-network offers. Their prices and benefits need comparing at the plan level; neither is automatically the better buy.

Monthly rolling, PAYG and 18-month contracts are not interchangeable

giffgaff calls its inclusive monthly bundles plans (formerly goodybags). Three arrangements matter when shopping, plus a fourth way of paying for usage:

Product or payment methodHow it worksMain buying consequence
Monthly rolling planA one-calendar-month allowance that renews automatically with an eligible recurring payment methodChange the next plan or stop renewal without an 18-month commitment
One-month PAYG planA bundle for one calendar month without agreeing to an 18-month contractRenewal is not necessarily automatic; check the chosen payment settings
18-month contract planMonthly payments with an 18-month minimum commitmentYou can switch among eligible contract plans, but ending the contract early may incur a charge
PAYG creditCredit used for pay-per-use services or charges outside an inclusive planNot a monthly data allowance and may be costly for heavy mobile-data use

One calendar month is not necessarily 30 days. That is the period stated in giffgaff's published plan guidance, even though comparison websites sometimes group these offers under a '30-day rolling' filter. Budget according to the renewal dates in your account. Unused plan data does not roll over to the next monthly allowance. See giffgaff's official explanation of plans and credit and its monthly rolling guidance.

For monthly rolling, switching off auto-renew stops the next renewal; it does not automatically cancel the current period's allowance. If you need the additional data specifically associated with a rolling offer, check that its recurring-payment requirement stays satisfied.

How much could leaving an 18-month contract cost?

giffgaff lets you change between eligible 18-month contract plans without restarting the minimum term. This is not permission to move freely onto a PAYG or rolling product during the commitment. Outside the applicable 14-day cancellation period, giffgaff says its early termination charge is 50% of the current or most recent monthly plan price multiplied by the number of full months remaining. The exact amount depends on when you leave and which plan you then hold. Read the official contract explanation.

Here is a hypothetical choice, not a quoted giffgaff promotion. Both examples assume unchanged monthly prices, no upfront fees and complete billing periods:

Decision£10/month, 18-month contract£13/month, monthly rolling
Stay all 18 months£180£234
Leave after six months£60 in bills + £60 assumed exit fee = £120Six payments = £78
Leave after 12 months£120 in bills + £30 assumed exit fee = £15012 payments = £156

The interesting result: in this illustration, leaving at six months favours rolling by £42, but leaving after 12 months favours the fixed contract by £6. Under these exact assumptions, the crossover is between months 11 and 12. That is a reason to calculate your likely stay rather than declaring the lower monthly price the winner. It does not establish that every real contract breaks even at the same point; promotional allowances, a plan change, partial months and the actual termination quotation can alter the comparison.

giffgaff advertises a no-mid-contract-price-rise promise for qualifying 18-month plans purchased before the end of 2026. That is different from a guarantee about every future rolling-plan renewal. Confirm the price-lock condition on your selected offer. After the 18-month term, giffgaff says the existing contract plan can continue on a rolling basis; reaching the end date does not automatically stop the service or payment. Once the minimum term has ended, changing between contract-plan tiers generally requires signing up to a new contract, so choose your next allowance before the final contracted renewal if you intend to continue without committing again. giffgaff explains your options at the end of the contract.

Why a promotional data allowance deserves a second look

Some 18-month giffgaff offers add bonus data to a smaller base allowance. That larger advertised figure may be available only if you activate during the qualifying dates, and it may stop applying when you move to an ineligible plan.

A dated illustration from giffgaff's published terms, reviewed 21 October 2026, is its 25GB base + 55GB bonus = 80GB 18-month offer, with an activation deadline of 30 October 2026. The provider also describes a 6GB base + 34GB bonus = 40GB offer with its own promotional period. These examples explain how the advertised allowances are made up; they are not permanent data entitlements or manually added DealPriceCheck offers. See the official promotion terms.

Before committing to any boosted offer, establish the activation deadline, how many renewals receive the extra data, whether existing customers must opt in, and what happens if you change plan. For example, the fact that you may move between 18-month contract tiers does not mean your old bonus transfers to the new tier. A smaller, straightforward plan might be better if you would otherwise buy data you cannot use simply to qualify for the promotion.

If the temporary extra allowance would push you into a long commitment, check the wider selection of no-contract SIMs before deciding. The live giffgaff cards above, not the dated illustration, are the place to compare current purchase options.

Is Unlimited worth it, or is 100GB or 200GB enough?

Unlimited refers to UK data allowance, not unrestricted use of the network in every circumstance. If you use less than a large capped allowance, moving to Unlimited may only increase your bill. Look at three complete billing periods in your provider account, paying special attention to mobile hotspot use. Compare the capped and Unlimited offers at the same commitment length where possible.

For very heavy use, giffgaff's Fair Usage Policy gives examples of behaviour to avoid, including regularly tethering 12 or more devices or using around 650GB on two occasions within six months. These are examples of usage that may trigger review; they are not a simple 650GB monthly allowance, nor a guarantee that other unusual usage is exempt. The policy is aimed at personal, non-commercial use and protecting other customers' access.

A single laptop used occasionally as a hotspot is different from providing a busy household's permanent internet connection. If you intend to replace fixed broadband, test O2's indoor reception at the times you actually work or stream. Do not take an 18-month term solely on the basis of a national 5G coverage claim. To compare Unlimited across networks rather than giffgaff specifically, use our UK unlimited SIM comparison.

Can you use your full giffgaff data allowance in Europe?

No. giffgaff's published inclusive EU roaming allowance is up to 5GB of data per active plan, drawn from your UK allowance. A 2GB UK plan allows no more than 2GB of that plan abroad; a 100GB or Unlimited UK plan has a 5GB inclusive limit under the current policy. It is not another 5GB added to the UK bundle, and it does not reset simply because you cross a border or take a second trip.

According to giffgaff's EU roaming guidance, checked on 21 October 2026, additional roaming data can cost 10p per MB from credit once the included cap is exhausted. For scale, another 1,000MB would cost £100 if entirely charged at that published rate; this is an illustrative usage calculation, not a quoted roaming add-on price. Check whether a Travel Data Add-on or an eligible early plan renewal is better before consuming extra data. Starting the next plan early is subject to the provider's eligibility and account settings.

You can enable giffgaff's credit spend cap in your account, but it is off by default. Its published setting limits credit spending to £45 in a month, including qualifying credit spending on plans as well as calls, texts and data; it is not a promise that your total phone bill can never exceed £45. Read how the credit spend cap works.

Roam Like At Home also has residency and duration conditions. giffgaff says eligible UK-based members should have used its service in the UK in the 63 days before travel. Its Fair Usage Policy also addresses 63 or more days abroad in any four-month period without evidence of prevailing UK presence or usage, and states that notice is given before additional charges apply. A Travel Data Add-on may provide different eligibility for its validity period. These are not blanket permission for an unlimited stay overseas. Switzerland and Türkiye are not in the usual inclusive EU zone, although giffgaff sells travel data add-ons for those countries. Review the actual destination list, especially on multi-country trips and near borders.

For a purchase where roaming is more important than the giffgaff brand, compare the available SIM deals with inclusive EU roaming and check the provider-specific destination and data rules.

O2 coverage, eSIM and keeping your number

giffgaff operates on O2's UK mobile network and offers 4G and 5G where compatible coverage and devices permit. If O2 signal already works for you, giffgaff may be an easy alternative to paying for an O2-branded contract. If O2 struggles in your flat, workplace or commute, changing from O2 to giffgaff is unlikely to solve that underlying coverage problem. Check predicted reception with Ofcom's independent mobile coverage tool and, where possible, test the service before choosing a longer term.

giffgaff supports eSIM on compatible phones, with activation and conversion handled through its app. The plan, handset and activation instructions still need to match. The official eSIM instructions explain the process.

To bring your existing UK mobile number, text PAC to 65075 from your current SIM and give that code to the new provider. Do not cancel the old line separately before it is transferred. A number transfer does not waive an existing early termination charge. Follow our step-by-step guide to keeping your number if you need the full sequence.

When is another operator a better option?

Stay with a giffgaff offer if O2 coverage suits you, its specific data allowance covers your needs and the monthly rolling or 18-month terms work for your budget. The existing giffgaff View Deal buttons remain the direct route to those offers.

Keep O2 coverage, change provider if you need different contract terms or roaming conditions: compare Tesco Mobile deals within the broader O2-network selection. Tesco Clubcard Price eligibility and roaming benefits are not interchangeable with giffgaff's monthly rolling model.

Change underlying network if O2's reception or giffgaff's terms are the problem: compare 1pMobile deals and Lyca Mobile deals, which use EE rather than O2. Their value lies in the actual allowance, commitment and roaming terms — not a promise of lower prices or identical coverage. Check EE signal at your postcode, compare the current and any later recurring payments, then use the chosen card's existing View Deal link on DealPriceCheck.

giffgaff SIM-only FAQs

Can I get a giffgaff SIM-only plan without a credit check?

Yes. giffgaff says it does not carry out a credit check when you buy its SIM-only plans, including 18-month contracts. Handset finance is different: buying a phone through a credit agreement may involve a credit check. An 18-month SIM-only agreement still has payment obligations and possible early-exit charges.

Can I reduce my giffgaff data allowance during an 18-month contract?

Yes, provided you switch to another eligible 18-month contract plan. giffgaff says this does not restart the existing minimum term. Your monthly price and any promotional-data entitlement may change, and you still cannot simply cancel the contract penalty-free once the normal cooling-off period has passed.

Does giffgaff support 5G and eSIM?

Yes, on supported devices. An eSIM-compatible handset does not necessarily support 5G, and a 5G phone does not guarantee 5G coverage indoors. Confirm both the device and the places you use it most.
