How we show deals
Why are total and effective costs shown?
We show the provider’s advertised monthly price alongside any stated upfront cost and the contract total, so it is easier to compare the terms.
Does DealPriceCheck cover the whole UK market?
No. We compare selected providers and do not claim whole-of-market coverage.

Is SMARTY a good SIM-only choice?
SMARTY is most compelling if you want to pay for mobile service a month at a time, avoid a credit check and keep the option to change your data allowance. Its standard phone SIMs include unlimited standard UK calls and texts, and 5G does not require a separate premium. The trade-off is that flexibility and a large headline data allowance cannot make up for weak signal at the places where you actually use your phone.
It may be a poor fit if you need a particular network's proven indoor coverage, rely on a 2G- or 3G-only device, expect unlimited data while travelling in Europe, or want a long-term price commitment. The SMARTY deals listed above are a selected provider catalogue, not a guarantee of the lowest SMARTY price available anywhere.
| Your priority | Why SMARTY could work | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| Freedom to leave or change | Prepaid monthly renewal rather than a 12- or 24-month minimum term | Auto-renew is switched on when a plan is activated; turn it off if you want to stop paying after the current month |
| Lots of UK data | Several capped allowances and an unlimited option | Your real usage, reliable local signal and the actual price on the checkout page |
| 5G or eSIM | Both are available with compatible devices | Handset compatibility and coverage, not just the 5G or eSIM label |
| European trips | Inclusive roaming on eligible plans | A standard 12GB fair-use limit for data on plans with more than 12GB; Ireland is a special case |
| Several people on SMARTY | Group options may reduce the combined cost | Who pays, individual versus shared renewal dates and any lost promotional pricing |
Which SMARTY data allowance should you choose?
Choose the allowance you will use, not the biggest number on the card. The most useful comparison is what an extra pound buys at the data level you actually need. Look at your phone's mobile-data usage for the last two or three months; ignore Wi-Fi usage. If you often use a hotspot, check usage across the connected devices too. Then compare the next allowance above your normal consumption with the cheapest plan that comfortably covers it.
SMARTY's selected catalogue currently spans smaller allowances, mid-range and high-data bundles, and unlimited data. The following are shopping scenarios, not promises that a specific allowance or price will always be in stock:
| How you use mobile data | Practical starting point | Decision rule |
|---|---|---|
| Mostly home/work Wi-Fi; messaging and maps outside | Compare the smaller capped plans | Do not pay for 100GB merely because its cost per GB looks attractive |
| Regular commuting, music, short videos and social apps | Compare the middle allowances | An extra buffer is useful; a huge one may be wasted |
| Frequent video streaming, large downloads or tethering | Compare higher capped plans against unlimited | Choose unlimited only if the gap in actual monthly cost is worth removing the UK data ceiling |
| Using mobile data as your main home connection | Look at high-data and unlimited options | Test indoor signal, speed at busy times and hotspot performance before treating a mobile SIM as fixed broadband |
Do not confuse the base allowance on a card with a time-limited promotional allowance. On 20 October 2026, DealPriceCheck's standard listings showed 16GB for £8 and 100GB for £12. However, SMARTY's published promotion terms also described 32GB for £8 on the 16GB plan (claim deadline 9 November 2026) and 140GB for £12 on the 100GB plan (deadline 26 October 2026). Both boosts were subject to eligibility and offered up to 15 consecutive months of extra data, after which the allowance reverts to the underlying plan. These are dated, conditional promotions — not a promise that every shopper, card link or later checkout will receive the boost.
Why it matters: The same dated base-price snapshot showed 20GB at £9 and 40GB at £10. Looking only at those cards, someone using 25–30GB might sensibly pay another £1 for 40GB. But if that shopper is eligible for the 32GB-for-£8 promotion and can actually select it at checkout, the cheaper boosted plan could be a better fit. After a promotion expires, the answer can change again. Compare the allowance, price, eligibility, expiry and what happens after any introductory period on the actual SMARTY order page before deciding; do not treat the static example as today's ranking.
What happens if you use up your data before renewal?
On a capped SMARTY plan, running out of data does not mean the network automatically sells you another large bundle. SMARTY says it sends a warning at roughly 80% usage and another when the allowance is exhausted. You can then use Wi-Fi, purchase a data add-on or wait until your allowance renews. Its data add-ons do not expire, but you need an active main plan to use them. If you run out every month, switching to a larger bundle may work out cheaper than repeatedly buying add-ons — although a plan change usually starts at your next renewal. SMARTY's data add-on guidance explains the current options.
Is a SMARTY phone SIM the same as a Data Only SIM?
No. The rolling phone plans compared above include standard UK calls and texts, whereas SMARTY also sells separate Data Only plans intended for tablets, dongles and mobile-broadband backup; calling and texting are not included in the same way. If you mainly need a router or tablet connection, compare the actual Data Only product rather than assuming the phone-plan cards cover the entire range. See our data-only SIM guide or SMARTY's Data Only plans.
Are direct offers and comparison-site exclusives the same?
There is an important limit to any selected deal list. SMARTY may sell one set of offers through its own pages and other offers through comparison partners; a data bundle, introductory discount or unlimited price can differ even when the underlying network is the same. On 20 October 2026, major UK comparison listings included SMARTY packages not shown in DealPriceCheck's direct-offer selection.
Our recommendation: compare the offers above and open Full plan details for the terms. As checked on 20 October 2026, View Deal opened SMARTY's general SIM-only plan selection, not a basket with the clicked allowance already selected. Find the plan again and confirm whether its displayed allowance includes a promotion, what qualifies you for it and when any bonus ends. If finding the absolute lowest SMARTY price is your main goal, compare other sales channels before paying. An offer is only better when you can actually obtain it under the stated eligibility and renewal terms. DealPriceCheck does not claim whole-of-market coverage.
Does SMARTY use Three or Vodafone coverage?
SMARTY has traditionally operated on Three's mobile network. Following the Vodafone–Three merger, SMARTY says it is enabling access to shared Vodafone and Three sites in phases. Where sharing is live, compatible phones can connect automatically, without buying a new plan or manually selecting Vodafone. However, this is not the same as blanket access to every Vodafone mast or identical coverage between the two networks. SMARTY itself says the rollout and coverage maps vary by location.
Before ordering, use SMARTY's coverage checker, enter your home and work postcodes, and look at the places where a weak connection would matter most. A postcode map is an estimate; thick walls, terrain, crowds, congestion and your phone's capabilities can change real-world performance. If Three has historically been poor indoors at your address, do not assume the merger has already fixed it. For a broader selection of networks and MVNOs, see our Three-network SIM comparison.
SMARTY supports 4G and 5G, but not 2G or 3G. That matters if you use an older feature phone or specialist connected equipment. A 5G handset is not required to use an ordinary compatible 4G device, but it is required to benefit from 5G where available. SMARTY explains its phased network sharing.
How much EU roaming data do you get with SMARTY?
Up to 12GB per plan month is SMARTY's standard inclusive EU roaming data limit on plans with more than 12GB. It is taken from your UK allowance, not added on top. With a smaller domestic plan, you do not suddenly receive a 12GB roaming allowance. Likewise, a large UK allowance — even unlimited — does not mean you can use all of it abroad.
There are useful exceptions and options:
- Republic of Ireland: SMARTY says the usual 12GB EU data fair-use limit does not apply there. Your own plan allowance and other terms still matter.
- More data in eligible European destinations: Customers with a plan larger than 12GB can purchase a one-day or three-day EU Roaming Data Pass to access more of their remaining UK allowance during the pass period. It does not turn your plan into unlimited international data.
- Other countries: Calls from the UK to a foreign number are international calls, not roaming. Roaming outside the included destinations can also have separate charges. Check the exact destination, device setup and spending controls before travelling.
- Extended stays abroad: SMARTY's published roaming conditions allow suspension if a customer has used the service outside the UK for 60 continuous days or more within a rolling 12-month period. Inclusive EU roaming is not intended as a permanent overseas mobile plan.
For a short holiday, inclusive roaming may be enough. For repeated working trips with hotspot use, compare the cost of roaming passes with alternatives rather than choosing unlimited UK data for the wrong reason. See SMARTY's roaming rules and our wider EU roaming SIM comparison.
What do you actually pay for a 30-day SMARTY plan?
SMARTY's standard phone plans are prepaid. You pay upfront for the first period and the next monthly cycle is tied to SIM activation, not necessarily the day you ordered. Auto-renew starts enabled when the plan is activated, so it is worth checking the setting if you want a SIM for only a month or two. SMARTY says these plans do not require a credit search and do not accept Direct Debit; other payment methods are available. Its advertised no annual price rises means you are not trapped in a longer minimum term with a scheduled mid-contract increase; it is not a lifetime guarantee that the price or promotional terms at future renewals can never change.
You can change your plan through your account, normally with the change taking effect on your next renewal. Turning off auto-renew is also how you pause future renewals. This prevents another plan payment, but it does not mean a permanently free, active mobile service: calls, texts and data cease when the paid period ends. SMARTY may ultimately close accounts that remain inactive. Its billing and renewal explanation gives the current rules.
Two less obvious costs of switching plans deserve attention:
- A promotional rate or allowance may not transfer. SMARTY says that changing plans normally forfeits an existing promotion. Check the price of the new plan, not merely the attractive offer you are leaving.
- Legacy unused-data discounts are closed to new customers. Older reviews may claim SMARTY refunds unused data. Its former Data Discount plans have been discontinued. Existing eligible customers may keep one only while they remain on it, and cannot move back after changing. Do not choose a new rolling plan expecting that old perk. SMARTY's current Data Discount guidance confirms the distinction.
If flexibility is the deciding factor, compare the actual terms of other 30-day, no-contract SIM deals as well. “One month” describes the commitment; it does not prove one provider will have the best coverage or price.
Is a SMARTY Group plan cheaper for several people?
Sometimes, but compare the real total. The cheapest individual SMARTY SIM is not necessarily the cheapest way to pay for several people. SMARTY offers two different Group arrangements, with one Group Owner and up to seven members. They have different payment mechanics:
| Group option | How it works | Important catch |
|---|---|---|
| Mix & Match | Members can choose different eligible data plans, with a 10% Group discount under the published rules | The Group Owner pays; members may have different renewal dates. Eligible direct SMARTY website promotions can combine with the Group discount, but affiliate-channel offers have different rules |
| Everyone Unlimited | A combined unlimited arrangement with one renewal date and a set Owner/member price | The Owner pays the whole bill. Member pricing is not an individual unlimited offer, and existing promotions do not carry across |
At the official terms checked 20 October 2026, Everyone Unlimited was advertised at £20 per month for the Group Owner and £15 for each additional member. Two people would therefore cost £35 per monthly renewal under those published Group terms, before any separately chargeable extras. That is an illustration of the Group arrangement, not a £15 standalone unlimited plan and not a promise that Group pricing can never change.
A Group discount is not automatically the lowest total. On the same date, the two separate £20 unlimited plans in our tracked catalogue would have cost £40 together, making the £35 Group illustration £5 cheaper. This is a dated, conditional comparison rather than a current price guarantee. Check both routes before moving anyone's existing number.
The Owner is responsible for payments, and the arrangements for pausing or leaving differ between the two Group types. For example, pausing the Owner's Everyone Unlimited plan can pause member services. Use SMARTY's Group-plan explanation before moving several numbers; do not assume it is just a family discount applied to normal individual checkout links.
Is there a SMARTY plan for people on benefits?
SMARTY also operates a Social Tariff for eligible customers receiving specified benefits. At 20 October 2026, the provider listed unlimited UK data, standard calls and texts, 5G, and an EU roaming allowance of up to 12GB for £12 per month. Eligibility includes Universal Credit, Pension Credit and certain income-related benefits, subject to verification and the provider's rules. The Social Tariff is not a public unlimited deal available to everyone and is not interchangeable with the ordinary unlimited card above. If eligible, check SMARTY's Social Tariff conditions before choosing a standard plan.
What should you check before clicking View Deal?
Use this final check in order; it is usually more useful than sorting by advertised data volume alone.
- Check your mobile-data history. Choose enough headroom for your ordinary month and occasional spikes, not a bundle built around a one-off holiday.
- Check signal where you need it. Confirm SMARTY's postcode estimate for home, work and regular journeys. Phased Vodafone sharing is a potential benefit, not a guarantee.
- Read the actual offer. Confirm the selected plan again after leaving DealPriceCheck, especially its monthly charge, boosted versus base data allowance, promotional end date, what happens after any bonus period, eligibility and 5G/eSIM support. DealPriceCheck shows selected tariffs, not every channel's exclusive deal.
- Think through travel and family use. If relevant, calculate roaming-pass or Group-plan costs separately instead of assuming they are included in the card price.
- Keep your number if you want to. Request a PAC from your current provider (normally by texting PAC to 65075) and give it to SMARTY. Follow the switching instructions rather than cancelling your old number before the transfer. Ofcom explains the Text to Switch process.
If SMARTY passes those checks, return to the live offers above, select View Deal, then choose and verify the exact plan on SMARTY's website. If you are still uncertain about signal, look at the wider SIM-only comparison before committing.
SMARTY SIM-only questions, answered
Do SMARTY SIM-only deals have a credit check?
SMARTY says its prepaid monthly plans do not require a credit search. You pay for the plan before using it, rather than taking out a conventional long-term handset or airtime credit agreement. The precise payment and eligibility conditions still apply.
Can I use an eSIM or hotspot with SMARTY?
Yes, subject to device compatibility. SMARTY supports eSIM, and its phone plans permit tethering or personal hotspot use from the relevant data allowance. Confirm your handset has eSIM capability before ordering; a phone that only accepts a physical SIM will not become eSIM-compatible because the deal advertises it. For wider options see our eSIM deals comparison.
Does “unlimited SMARTY data” mean unlimited data in Europe?
No. Unlimited refers to the plan's domestic UK data allowance, subject to its terms. SMARTY's standard EU roaming fair-use limit is 12GB per plan month in applicable destinations. Ireland has a distinct rule, and eligible customers can purchase short EU roaming data passes.
Will SMARTY refund unused data at the end of the month?
Not on newly sold standard rolling plans. The older Data Discount product was discontinued; some existing customers can retain it only while they stay on that legacy plan. It should not be confused with a data rollover benefit.
Can I change my SMARTY plan after joining?
Normally yes: change the plan in your account for the next renewal. But check whether you would lose any existing introductory rate or legacy entitlement. Pausing renewal and changing plan are different actions, and Group accounts have additional rules.
