For calls from the UK to ordinary Nigerian mobile or landline numbers, check a Nigeria-specific calling bundle first. 'International minutes' on an ordinary UK SIM do not necessarily include Nigeria (+234). Lyca Mobile publishes dedicated Nigeria products, but a regular Lyca UK data plan is a different offer. Nigeria was not confirmed among the standard included destinations in the Lebara UK information reviewed for this guide, so a low-priced Lebara SIM should not be assumed to include calls there.
For regular conventional calls, compare the Nigeria minutes and the number types included. For occasional calls, PAYG or app-to-phone may be cheaper; if both people have WhatsApp and internet access, you may not need another SIM at all. If you also need UK data, compare current Lyca UK SIM deals, but confirm that the exact product you buy includes Nigeria calls rather than treating an ordinary UK deal card as a Nigeria bundle.
Which type of SIM or calling service fits your situation?
Your situation
Best starting point
Why the obvious cheap SIM may not work
You call ordinary Nigerian numbers most weeks
A package explicitly giving minutes to Nigeria, such as a suitable Lyca Nigeria plan
Generic “100 international minutes” may not include Nigeria
You call only a few times a month
Pay-as-you-go calls, a compatible add-on, or an app-to-phone service
A recurring Nigeria bundle can leave paid-for minutes unused
Your relative can answer internet calls
Keep your existing SIM and try WhatsApp or another app-to-app service over Wi-Fi
Paying separately for telephone minutes may add no value
You already have a Vodafone pay-monthly account
Check whether an eligible Vodafone international Extra includes your Nigerian number
An Extra costs money on top of the existing mobile plan
You want UK data and Nigeria calls on one line
Compare both the UK data benefit and the separate Nigeria-specific terms
A low-data Nigeria bundle and a high-data UK offer are not interchangeable
You need to keep an existing UK number
Compare a suitable new main SIM with a second calling line
Switching early can trigger charges; dual-SIM use requires the right handset
The main buying rule: do not select a tariff by its GB allowance, a low introductory payment or the phrase international calls included. Select it by the number type you dial, the Nigeria minutes actually included, and the amount you will pay over your expected usage period.
What do Lyca's dedicated Nigeria plans include?
Lyca publishes three Nigeria plans with stated allowances for standard Nigerian mobile and landline calls. The figures below are a product snapshot checked on 22 October 2026, not live DealPriceCheck affiliate-card offers. The amounts refer to a 30-day period; the current price and eligibility still need confirmation on the named product.

The product descriptions explicitly specify standard Nigerian landlines and mobiles. Lyca's published Nigeria bundle terms state that calls are rounded up to the next whole minute when calculating the remaining allowance. Unusual services and non-standard numbers can be charged separately. For Nigeria Plan 20 and 40, Lyca’s published product terms specify new-customer restrictions and a 30-day SIM activation window; Plan 40 also specifies a shorter 15-day SIM PIN deadline. Check which conditions apply to the exact route by which you buy or activate a plan, as well as the renewal and excess-call terms.
Nigeria Plan 20 offers 65 more eligible calling minutes than Plan 10 for an extra £10 in this dated snapshot. That higher tier may make sense if you need those minutes or its additional UK data — but it is not automatically better value. Compare the extra cost with the calls you would otherwise pay for, and remember that both bundles can include domestic benefits.
Looking for an international-calling package?Explore Lyca Mobile’s International Plans. This is our Awin partner route to Lyca’s general international-plans page, not a verified direct checkout for Nigeria Plan 10, 20 or 40. The page itself is accessible, but its Nigeria-plan availability and the final Awin-to-checkout route have not been confirmed by this editorial audit. Check the named Nigeria package and its allowances before ordering.
Can you buy these Nigeria bundles through the live Lyca cards below?
Not necessarily. Our Lyca Mobile provider page tracks selected UK SIM plans, their first and later payments, UK data and contract terms. Those cards have working View Deal affiliate routes, but they do not establish that the chosen UK plan is Nigeria Plan 10, 20 or 40. A 30GB UK data plan and a 60-minute Nigeria calling plan may have similar brand names or prices while providing completely different allowances.
If you want to replace your everyday UK SIM, use current Lyca UK deals to shortlist the domestic side, open Full plan details and then confirm the Nigeria voice entitlement of the exact package at checkout. If you specifically need one of Lyca's separate Nigeria products, check its named details through the international range rather than buying a different UK card and assuming the minutes transfer.
Why Lebara's international-minutes headline needs a Nigeria check
Lebara is a genuine option for competitively priced UK service and calls to eligible countries. On the Lebara UK standard included-destination information reviewed for this guide, Nigeria was not confirmed as an included country. An earlier discussion on Lebara’s UK community forum also reported its exclusion, but that is not a substitute for checking a particular live offer. Do not read “50+ countries” as proof that Nigeria is included; only a matching product-specific country list or explicit operator confirmation establishes that entitlement.
That does not mean a Lebara user is physically unable to call Nigeria. Calls outside an included allowance may be possible using separately funded PAYG credit at the applicable destination-specific rate. But it changes the buying decision: a Lebara UK data deal can be worthwhile for Vodafone coverage or low UK data costs without being the right international-calling package for a person who makes long calls to Nigeria each week.
If you already have a Lebara SIM, check the rate for the exact Nigerian landline or mobile number before buying credit. If you are choosing a new SIM specifically for Nigeria calls, a verified Nigeria-specific allowance is a stronger starting point than an unverified assumption about Lebara's standard international pool.
For the operators’ wider UK network, roaming and billing differences, see Lebara vs Lyca Mobile. If you call several countries rather than Nigeria alone, use our international-calling SIM guide. This page has a narrower purpose: reaching +234 numbers affordably from Britain.
When is a separate Nigeria calling SIM better than a UK data deal?
A dedicated calling line makes sense when you want to keep your existing UK tariff — perhaps for your banking texts, work number or large mobile-data allowance — but make conventional calls to Nigeria more cheaply. You could then use a second physical SIM or eSIM, where the phone and operator support it.
The main risk is more than a second renewal. Your phone must place each outgoing call using the correct SIM; calling through your original UK line by mistake can trigger international charges even with unused Nigeria minutes on the second SIM. Compare the full cost of two active services with an international add-on on your existing account.
What about Talk Home, Vodafone and SMARTY?
These illustrate three different products, and they should not be compared as though they came with identical UK data and Nigeria-call benefits.
Talk Home Mobile: its UK site listed Nigeria Basic at £10 and Nigeria Pro at £20 for 30 days when checked on 22 October 2026. Its comparison cards label the allowances “70 Mins/SMS” and “150 Mins/SMS”; other operator listings describe calling minutes and SMS separately. Do not assume these labels mean one shared pool or that both types of usage are interchangeable. Confirm the product’s voice-minute and SMS rules individually before comparing it with a Lyca bundle. Talk Home is not in our live catalogue; these are useful market benchmarks, not our checkout offers.
Vodafone: its published International Saver Extra and several other international calling Extras include Nigeria among the listed destinations, but the exact Extra, number types, eligible account, fee and allowance differ. If you already pay Vodafone, compare the additional price of the eligible Extra with the full cost of a second calling SIM. If you are considering moving to Vodafone solely to get that Extra, include the cost and commitment of the underlying Vodafone plan as well. You can examine our tracked Vodafone UK SIM offers separately from the untracked calling Extra.
SMARTY: its ordinary UK data cards are not evidence of included Nigeria minutes. SMARTY uses out-of-plan credit for international calling outside standard UK allowances. Be especially careful with the operator's page headed Using SMARTY in Nigeria: that page gives roaming charges while you are physically in Nigeria, not necessarily the price of dialling Nigeria from Britain. Our existing live SMARTY cards remain useful for comparing UK data, but do not label them as Nigeria calling bundles.
These existing Lyca Mobile and SMARTY cards show selected UK SIM services, not a verified ranking of Nigeria-call packages. Where you need a single main phone service, compare domestic coverage, UK data, promotional prices and contract lengths using the live cards; then establish Nigeria eligibility on the exact product. Where you only need cheap calls to Nigerian numbers, a separate country-specific bundle or calling method may suit you better.

Why a 60-minute Nigeria bundle can run out in under an hour of talking
Lyca’s published Nigeria bundle terms round each call up to a whole minute for the included allowance. That means short conversations can use more billable minutes than the time actually spent talking.
Calling pattern
Actual time spoken
Minutes counted if each call rounds up
20 calls lasting 45 seconds each
15 minutes
20 minutes
30 calls lasting 1 minute 5 seconds each
32 minutes 30 seconds
60 minutes
30 calls lasting 2 minutes 10 seconds each
65 minutes
90 minutes
Under that billing rule, just thirty quick 65-second calls use up a 60-minute allowance. By contrast, a single continuous call of 58 minutes and 10 seconds would consume 59 rounded minutes. The point is not that every operator rounds the same way; this is a documented term for Lyca's Nigeria package.
When does a bundle beat pay-as-you-go?
Compare two illustrative PAYG rates, 10p and 25p per billable minute, with a hypothetical £10 bundle containing 60 eligible Nigeria minutes. None of the example PAYG rates is presented as a current quote from Lyca or any other operator.

At 25p/min, the bundle and PAYG are equal at 40 billable minutes; after that the bundle saves money only while the included 60-minute allowance lasts. At 10p/min, even 60 minutes cost £6, so buying a £10 bundle solely for voice would not save money within its allowance. The bundle may still be worthwhile if its included UK data replaces spending you would otherwise incur. This difference matters because specialist app-to-phone services can advertise much lower rates than an ordinary UK SIM's international PAYG rate; compare the live rate, billing increments, credit and access fees rather than assuming either example is typical. These are scenarios, not invented provider prices.
For an actual Lyca PAYG quote, check Lyca’s International Rates and select Nigeria. This Awin-linked page shows out-of-allowance calling rates, not the price of a Nigeria bundle. Confirm the number type and any billing increments before comparing it with the plans above.
If you call for a few minutes one week and several hours the next, calculate two scenarios rather than buying your biggest possible allowance every period. And remember that a 30-day bundle does not renew on exactly the same calendar dates as a monthly subscription.
Does the Nigerian network or number prefix matter?
For ordinary voice calls, the exact number type matters more than which operator's logo appears on the recipient's SIM. UK calling products may cover standard Nigerian mobiles and landlines while excluding premium numbers, short codes, certain service ranges or other unusual destinations.
Nigerian mobile users commonly know MTN, Airtel, Glo and T2mobile (formerly 9mobile). The Nigerian regulator publishes allocated prefixes, but Nigeria also supports mobile number portability. Someone whose number originally had an MTN prefix may later use a different operator, as the Nigerian Communications Commission explains in its mobile-number portability guidance. Therefore do not try to decide your UK calling allowance from the first four digits alone. If the package mentions a network-specific restriction, confirm the complete dialled number and its current treatment.
How do you dial Nigeria from a UK mobile?
Use +234 followed by the Nigerian number without the domestic leading 0. A mobile written locally as `0803 XXX XXXX` is dialled as `+234 803 XXX XXXX`. The `00 234` format can also be used on many phones. For a Nigerian landline, apply the same principle to its domestic area code. The Nigerian Communications Commission's numbering information supports the country code and number ranges.
Using the correct +234 format gets the number into an international dialling form. It does not itself make a call included, free or charged at a particular rate.
Can you call an ordinary Nigerian number without a new UK SIM?
If you mostly call family over Wi-Fi, an app-to-app service such as WhatsApp or Signal can often meet your needs without conventional international per-minute telephone charges. Both people need the relevant app and usable internet. Mobile data consumption and any underlying broadband or data charges still matter, but there is no ordinary UK-to-Nigeria telephone dialling charge for an app-to-app call.
That will not work when you must dial a normal phone number belonging to an offline relative, a business landline or a helpline. App-to-phone services are a different category: you use internet access in the UK, while the service connects the other end to an ordinary Nigerian telephone number. They generally charge a destination-specific rate or require credit. Calling cards may use an access number, PIN, expiry date and separate access charges. The lowest headline rate can be misleading if there are connection fees, billable-minute rounding or credit rules.
There is no reason to abandon a good UK mobile plan simply because a rival offers a cheaper Nigeria rate in isolation. For regular family calls, consider which calls genuinely need the conventional telephone network and which can happen online; that decision can save more than switching between two almost identical UK data bundles.
Should you switch your main number or keep two SIMs?
Keep your existing number when it is attached to banking, work or important contacts and the calling savings do not justify a provider change. A second SIM can give you a separate Nigeria-calling allowance. If you do want one replacement SIM, our guide to keeping your mobile number explains the UK PAC process; you can request a PAC by texting PAC to 65075. Review outstanding contract obligations before changing provider, and do not cancel a number yourself before porting it.
If you change your main UK service, coverage still matters. Lyca uses EE's UK infrastructure, while Lebara uses Vodafone's. Check predicted signal where you make long calls with Ofcom's Map Your Mobile. Good 5G data marketing does not guarantee a reliable indoor voice call on your exact phone or access to Wi-Fi Calling.
Calling Nigeria from the UK is not roaming in Nigeria
This guide is about dialling Nigerian numbers while you are in the UK. Taking a UK SIM to Lagos or Abuja is a separate roaming decision with different rules for data, calls, texts and receiving calls. An operator's included EU roaming allowance is not evidence of included Nigeria roaming. A SMARTY page showing charges in Nigeria, for example, should not be read as its price for calling Nigeria from Britain.
If you are going to Nigeria, check the exact destination roaming terms and consider a local or travel connection separately. Do not buy a Nigeria international calling bundle on the assumption that its +234 minutes will work as free roaming voice minutes once you land.
What should you do before checkout?
First establish how many billable conventional Nigeria minutes you need, and whether you are calling an ordinary mobile or landline. If a dedicated product such as one of Lyca's Nigeria bundles suits you, verify its named eligibility, exact price, activation deadline, 30-day validity and post-allowance terms. You can use the Lyca International Plans partner page as a starting point, but it is not a direct link to a verified Nigeria-plan checkout. If you need UK data too, compare the UK component rather than assuming every Nigeria bundle is a fully featured replacement SIM.
For a new everyday UK service, use the current Lyca Mobile cards or the existing live comparison above, read Full plan details for UK tariff and renewal conditions, and choose View Deal only when the particular plan fits your UK requirements and you have independently confirmed the relevant Nigerian calling benefit. Do not mistake the ordinary UK cards for a Nigeria-specific product.
For an occasional caller, compare actual PAYG and app-to-phone costs against keeping your current UK SIM. If you already pay for an eligible Vodafone contract, check an add-on before taking out a second subscription. The best financial outcome may be not switching at all.
Calling Nigeria from the UK: common questions
Which UK SIM has included calls to Nigeria?
Lyca publishes dedicated Nigeria Plan 10, 20 and 40 bundles with defined Nigeria mobile and landline minutes. This does not establish that every ordinary Lyca UK SIM includes Nigeria. Other services, including Vodafone's eligible international Extras and specialist country bundles, may also cover Nigeria on their particular terms. Verify the exact package rather than just the provider.
Is Nigeria included in Lebara's standard international minutes?
Nigeria was not confirmed among the standard included destinations in the Lebara UK information checked for this guide. That is a reason not to assume it is included, rather than proof that every possible Lebara product excludes Nigeria. Check your exact product’s destination list or obtain operator confirmation; otherwise calls may require PAYG credit.
How many minutes do Lyca Nigeria Plan 10 and Plan 20 offer?
On the official product information checked 22 October 2026, Nigeria Plan 10 lists 60 minutes and Nigeria Plan 20 lists 125 minutes to standard Nigerian mobiles and landlines, in 30-day packages. These are dated operator facts, not live DealPriceCheck card entitlements or promises of future pricing and availability.
Can I use my existing Vodafone SIM to call Nigeria?
Potentially. Nigeria appears in Vodafone's published destination lists for certain international calling Extras. Confirm the Extra your account can actually buy, what it covers, and the extra payment on top of your existing Vodafone tariff. Not all similarly named Extras have the same conditions.
Does SMARTY's Nigeria page show the price of a call from the UK?
Not necessarily. The page titled Using SMARTY in Nigeria shows what can be charged when a SMARTY customer roams in Nigeria. Calls dialled from Britain to a Nigerian number must be checked against the relevant UK-origin international calling price information instead.
Are Nigerian MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile numbers covered?
Standard mobile numbers may be eligible where a package expressly includes Nigerian mobiles. T2mobile is the current name of the operator previously known as 9mobile, and number portability means prefixes alone cannot establish today's receiving network. Confirm special and network-specific exclusions on the actual package.
How do I dial a Nigerian number from the UK?
Dial +234 and remove the leading domestic zero. For example, `0803 XXX XXXX` becomes `+234 803 XXX XXXX`. The correct format does not determine the price; that depends on your calling plan and number eligibility.
Are WhatsApp calls to Nigeria free?
App-to-app WhatsApp voice calls over Wi-Fi do not use traditional international telephone minutes, although internet access is still required and mobile data may be charged by your UK plan. Both callers need the app and a working connection. You cannot use an ordinary WhatsApp-to-WhatsApp call to reach a person who only has a conventional landline.
Is it worth buying a second Nigeria calling SIM?
It can be, if your existing UK data contract is worth keeping and a second service reduces the total charge for your eligible Nigeria calls. Compare both subscriptions, ensure that your handset supports the SIM combination and deliberately choose the correct outgoing line. If you rarely call, PAYG or an internet calling method may be better value.
Can I use a Nigeria calling bundle while travelling in Nigeria?
Do not assume so. Minutes for calls from the UK to +234 numbers are an international calling benefit; roaming while physically in Nigeria has separate charges and allowances. Check the operator's Nigeria roaming policy before departure.
