Lebara vs Lyca Mobile: Which SIM Is Better for You?
By DealPriceCheck · Published 11 October 2026 · Last reviewed 18 October 2026
Quick verdict:Lebara uses Vodafone's UK network; Lyca Mobile uses EE's. Check which gives you better reception at home and work first. Then check Lebara if a standard SIM-only plan covers the international numbers you call, or if you need eligible data, calls and texts while visiting India. Check Lyca Mobile if a qualifying bundle or separate country-specific product costs less for the numbers you call regularly. Neither is always cheaper for ordinary UK data: compare the full renewal cost, not just the first payment.

Before you buy: the live cards below cover selected UK SIM-only offers and not every product either brand sells. Operators may sell calling add-ons or separate country packages that are not included in a standard card. Clicking View Deal on a Lyca data bundle does not confirm that calls to Pakistan, Nigeria or another destination are included. Check the exact calling product and destination rules before you buy.
Selected providers — not whole of market. Each card shows its own last verified date. Prices and availability can change; check the provider’s website before purchase.
International calls: included minutes or a specialist package?
What matters is whether the specific overseas mobile or landline you ring qualifies under a product you can buy, and what you pay once any allowance runs out. The operator that advertises more minutes is not automatically the better one.
Lebara offers SIM-only plans with included international calling to eligible destinations. That is convenient if your UK data and regular overseas calls fit in one bundle. Check Lebara's international calling information for current eligible countries, number types and out-of-bundle rates.
Lyca also offers international calling allowances on qualifying bundles, plus separately marketed destination-focused products. If you spend long hours on calls to one overseas number, compare them, but do not assume a specialist package comes with the ordinary Lyca SIM-only deals above. Review the current Lyca international plans and the eligibility of the exact number you call.

If you mostly use WhatsApp or FaceTime Audio, you need affordable mobile data or Wi-Fi and not international voice minutes. Wi-Fi Calling is different: a call made through your operator's Wi-Fi Calling can still be charged as an international voice call. For more options, read our UK SIMs for international calls guide.
Roaming in Europe and India: which plan fits your trip?
International calling means phoning an overseas number from the UK. Roaming means using your UK SIM while abroad. A country named in both sets of benefits does not make the allowances interchangeable.
For India, Lebara's Roam Like Home arrangements are worth checking first if you need eligible calls and texts alongside data. A qualifying Lyca plan may instead include India roaming data while charging separately for voice and SMS. That difference matters if you need to make ordinary phone calls rather than just use messaging apps. Check Lebara's India roaming information and the exact India benefits in Lyca's current SIM plan information before buying.
For Europe, compare the countries included, the usable roaming data on the exact product, fair-use limits, what happens after the allowance, and whether the SIM must be activated before you travel. An Unlimited UK data label does not promise unlimited roaming, and a plan's UK calling allowance does not necessarily cover calls made abroad.
Travelling with a laptop? A roaming-data allowance does not automatically permit sharing that data with another device. Check the mobile data sharing or tethering exclusions in Lyca's current EU roaming policy, and confirm Lebara's hotspot rules for your plan and destination. UK hotspot permission does not automatically apply abroad.
Trip or usage
First check
Why
Short EU holiday
Both operators' eligible roaming data and fair-use policy
The amount you can use abroad may be lower than your UK allowance
Visiting India
Lebara's eligible data, voice and text terms; Lyca's selected roaming products
Data inclusion does not show that calls and SMS are included
Using a laptop abroad
The explicit roaming-hotspot policy for the chosen plan
A roaming data allowance alone does not grant tethering permission
Long stay overseas
Fair-use rules, permitted duration and possible extra costs
A UK travel allowance may not suit permanent use abroad
Lebara currently uses Vodafone's UK network, while Lyca Mobile uses EE's. This host-network distinction matters because reception varies by postcode, building and journey. The Network label on our current offer cards shows the network recorded in the DealPriceCheck catalogue. If a provider changes its network agreement, check the card and the latest operator information rather than relying on an older article.
Enter your home and workplace postcodes in Ofcom's mobile coverage checker. Compare 4G and 5G predictions indoors as well as outdoors, since a good outdoor result does not guarantee reliable calls in a basement or a room with thick walls. If you can, test a SIM before you transfer a number you depend on.
Providers on the same infrastructure can still differ in handset compatibility, speeds and service features. If the host network works but the price does not, compare other Vodafone-network SIM deals or EE-network SIM deals, depending on the network you found.
Which is cheaper after the promotion?
The lowest first payment is not always the lowest cost for the period you want to stay. Choose the same start and end dates, add each promotional payment and later renewal, and count any minimum term, upfront charge or out-of-bundle usage.
Hypothetical example. These are not current Lebara or Lyca offers:
Example
First payment
Next five payments
Total over six payments
Plan A
£5
£10 each
£55
Plan B
£8
£8 each
£48
Plan A is cheaper on day one but £7 dearer across six payments. The result can flip if the promotion lasts longer, the data allowance differs or cancellation is restricted.
Compare 30-day renewals and calendar-month billing with care. Twelve 30-day periods cover 360 days, not 365, so a full year of continuous service on a product sold in 30-day periods generally needs a thirteenth purchase. Do not assume every Lebara or Lyca product has the same renewal cycle.
The live cards show recorded introductory and later prices where the catalogue has those fields, each with its own last-verified date. The operator's checkout decides which product you can actually buy. For the full selected listings, see Lebara SIM-only deals or Lyca Mobile SIM-only deals.
eSIM, 5G and Wi-Fi Calling: check the actual phone
Both operators may offer eSIM, 5G or Wi-Fi Calling on eligible products, but a brand name or a compatible-looking handset does not guarantee a feature works. eSIM availability can depend on whether you are a new or existing customer, the tariff, your phone and the activation route. Wi-Fi Calling has its own device and account requirements.
If you need an eSIM before you travel, or rely on Wi-Fi Calling for indoor reception, check the exact product and handset before you move your main number. The catalogue's eSIM and 5G indicators report the fields we have recorded and do not guarantee every activation route or Wi-Fi Calling support. See the current Lebara eSIM help and your Lyca product's activation information, or compare UK eSIM SIM-only deals.
The verdict: Lebara, Lyca Mobile or another provider?
Start with Lebara if its eligible standard international minutes cover the numbers you call, its recorded network works better for you, or its current roaming terms fit your trip, especially when you need more than overseas data. Confirm each product's allowances and do not assume all Lebara SIMs are the same.
Start with Lyca Mobile if an eligible international bundle or a separate, currently available destination product is the cheaper way to call your contacts. Lyca can also be cheaper for UK data when its full-period price and recorded network suit you. Specialist calling benefits are not automatically in ordinary SIM-only cards.
Consider neither if local reception is poor, roaming rules block an essential use such as a laptop hotspot, or another operator has a better total cost. The live offers near the top are the quickest route to the selected plans. Use Full plan details to inspect a recorded offer and View Deal when you are ready to see the operator's purchase terms.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lebara or Lyca Mobile cheaper?
Neither always. Compare equivalent UK data and the calling benefits you need over the same dates, counting introductory payments, later renewals and any minimum commitment. A lower opening price is not a reliable verdict.
Are Lebara and Lyca on the same network?
No. Lebara currently uses Vodafone; Lyca Mobile currently uses EE. Check both on Ofcom's postcode coverage checker, because different underlying networks can perform very differently where you live. Host-network agreements and service features may change.
Which is better for calling Pakistan or Nigeria from the UK?
Compare Lyca's currently offered destination-focused options with the included destinations and rates on eligible Lebara plans. Check the exact number type and network, the allowance period and what happens when it runs out. A Lyca standard data plan does not automatically include a specialist calling product.
Does either operator include roaming in India?
Some eligible products offer India roaming benefits. Compare Lebara's destination-specific data, voice and text conditions with the chosen Lyca bundle. A roaming-data benefit alone does not prove that calls and texts are included.
Can I tether a laptop while roaming in Europe?
Only if the selected tariff's current roaming terms permit data sharing at your destination. Read Lyca's roaming exclusions and Lebara's tethering rules before you rely on a UK SIM for work abroad.
Can I use eSIM or Wi-Fi Calling with either provider?
Check the current offer, your exact phone model and the activation route. An eSIM or 5G badge does not confirm Wi-Fi Calling compatibility, and features are not available on every plan or device.
Can I keep my UK number if I switch?
Normally yes. Request a PAC from the provider you are leaving and give it to the new operator before you cancel the old service. Check any remaining contract commitment or unused prepaid credit. See Ofcom's mobile switching guidance.
How we compared Lebara and Lyca Mobile
We compared the buyer decisions that can change the result: eligible international calling vs separately sold packages, what is permitted when roaming in Europe and India, postcode-level network reception, renewal costs, and eSIM and handset compatibility. Sources include the operators' published international-calling, roaming and eSIM help pages linked above, plus Ofcom's coverage and switching guidance. We have not run our own speed, indoor-signal, roaming or customer-service tests.
DealPriceCheck compares selected UK SIM-only offers and not the whole market or every specialist international bundle. Our shared catalogue supplies recorded prices, offer details, network information and each offer's last-verified date. It does not certify destination-specific international minutes, hotspot permissions abroad or every handset requirement. The article's publication or review date is separate from offer-verification dates, so confirm the final product terms at checkout.
