Best SIM for Calling Poland from the UK: Which Deal Actually Covers +48 Calls?

If you regularly call Polish mobile or landline numbers from the UK, compare SIMs that explicitly include calls to Poland — not simply plans with EU roaming or unlimited UK minutes. Eligible Lyca Mobile and Lebara plans can cover Poland through international calling allowances. Another option worth checking is spusu: contract summaries for selected plans expressly include calls from the UK to EU countries, which is a different benefit from roaming in Europe. If you rarely make conventional calls, keeping your current SIM may be cheaper than changing provider.

For an everyday UK SIM that also handles calls to family or colleagues in Poland, start with the Lyca international plan options and Lebara's international calling options. Those are our confirmed affiliate routes to the operators' general international offerings, not promises that a particular UK deal card includes your Polish number.

The real choice comes down to whether you dial an ordinary +48 number, how many billable minutes you use, and whether a replacement SIM would also cover your UK data and calls. If you already have a suitable UK tariff, consider a Poland-only calling product before paying for a second full-service plan.

The Poland decision most UK SIM comparisons miss

Three benefits appear in mobile marketing. Only the third can make an ordinary call from Britain to a Polish number part of your allowance:

What the plan advertisesWhat it means when you phone Poland from the UK
Unlimited UK callsGenerally covers eligible UK numbers, not a +48 Polish mobile or landline
EU roamingCovers using your UK SIM while physically in an eligible EU destination, subject to that plan’s roaming terms; it does not automatically include calling Poland from home
International or EU calling minutes from the UKCan cover eligible calls to Polish numbers, but only when Poland, the number type and the specific plan's allowance are included

Calling a Polish +48 mobile while you are in Birmingham is an international call. Using your UK SIM while you are staying in Kraków is roaming. A Polish number stays +48 even if its owner is temporarily in Britain. Calling a +44 UK number whose owner happens to be in Poland is generally a UK-number call from your end; the recipient’s roaming charges may be separate.

That distinction is especially important with spusu: its contract summaries for some UK plans explicitly document EU international calls from Britain, alongside a separate EU roaming allowance. You should not assume the same is true of a different operator just because its page shows an EU flag.

Which calling arrangement fits your situation?

Your actual needThe first comparison worth makingWhat changes the answer
One SIM for UK data, texts and regular calls to PolandEligible Lyca vs Lebara UK SIM-only plansExact Polish number eligibility, shared international minutes, full renewal cost and UK coverage

A separate SIM mainly for Polish-number callsA Poland-focused calling bundle versus an all-in-one UK tariffWhat the bundle actually provides beyond Poland minutes, and whether you still need UK data
Happy with an existing Three or Vodafone SIMAn eligible international calling add-onIts incremental fee, Poland destination rules and expiry/renewal
Only a few paid calls each monthExisting SIM's verified Poland PAYG rate or a paid app-to-phone serviceConnection fees, rounding, minimum credit and whether an access number adds UK call charges

You need to keep the UK number used for banking or workA compatible second SIM, or port to a genuinely better all-in-one planDual-SIM support, outgoing-line selection and any existing contract exit cost

Do not compare the price of a second full UK SIM with the price of a small international add-on as if they buy the same service. Count what you would continue paying for your existing UK number. If you replace it, count the UK service you would be giving up as well.

Lyca or Lebara: one everyday UK SIM with Poland calls

Both providers have public international calling guidance that names Poland among eligible destinations. That makes them natural starting points, but their headline data allowances alone do not settle this purchase.

Lyca Mobile: find Poland in your exact international-minute list

Lyca uses EE's UK network and lists Poland in the international destination information of selected SIM products. Its published guidance describes eligible international calls to standard mobiles and landlines in the listed countries, subject to the chosen offer's rules. International minutes may be shared with other destinations, so a person who also calls Germany or Romania can consume the same pot of minutes.

Choose between Lyca options by asking whether the particular plan provides the UK data you need, includes the Polish number type you actually call, has sufficient international minutes and remains good value after any introductory period. For regular users, the price over several renewals matters more than an eye-catching first payment.

Browse our Lyca SIM-only listings to compare tracked UK charges, data and contract terms. When Poland calls are the deciding factor, use the approved Lyca international-plans link to check that specific offer's destinations and eligibility. If you instead intend to pay per minute, Lyca's international rates are the relevant starting point.

Lebara: check its Poland allowance and the full UK plan cost

Lebara uses Vodafone's UK network, and Poland appears on Lebara's published list of international calling destinations. Lebara states that its eligible international SIM allowances cover standard mobile and landline calls. This is useful when you regularly call relatives in Poland and want one main SIM for both UK service and international voice.

The decision is not simply EE versus Vodafone. One plan may have enough Poland minutes for your calling pattern but too little UK data. Another may give more data without enough extra international value to justify its higher total cost. Check the exact allowance and out-of-bundle treatment, whether the plan is rolling or committed, and whether the price increases after a promotion.

Compare our live Lebara UK offers with the Lyca cards above, then use the confirmed Lebara international-calls partner link to review the calling terms. Our Lebara vs Lyca Mobile comparison covers network and UK tariff trade-offs; this guide focuses on the cost of calls to +48 numbers.

What to rule out first

Rule out any individual offer that fails one essential requirement — even if its provider has a strong reputation for international calls. If the recipient is on a special-rate number, if a tariff has no usable +48 allowance, or if the UK data and coverage are inadequate, the advertised international-minute headline does not make the plan suitable. If both Lyca and Lebara meet the requirements, choose the lower whole-service cost over the same period, not a permanent editorial 'winner'.

The alternative you should not overlook: spusu's EU calling minutes

Some British comparisons discuss Lyca and Lebara but miss UK-to-EU calling included within selected spusu contracts. That can materially change the choice for someone whose overseas calls are almost entirely to Poland or other EU countries.

For example, the official spusu 20 contract summary documents up to 500 EU international calling minutes from the UK, separately from minutes available while roaming in the EU. A spusu 30 contract summary documents the same distinction. These are examples from specific contract documents, not a permanent guarantee for every tariff. As Poland is an EU destination, an eligible product could suit someone making longer ordinary calls to Polish numbers without a separate country bundle.

Check the spusu tariff currently available to you: the minutes, eligible Polish mobile or landline types, out-of-allowance charges and renewal terms may differ from the example contract. Even a confirmed EU-calling allowance does not automatically cover countries outside the EU. The key question is whether the exact plan covers your calls at a lower total cost.

We track spusu UK SIM offers and have a separate Lyca Mobile vs spusu comparison covering their broader costs and service differences. Those are internal research routes, not an invented spusu affiliate checkout. If Poland is your only international destination, give the EU-calling option a fair comparison; if you also call family outside Europe, a wider Lyca or Lebara international destination list may fit better.

A Poland-only bundle or a paid app-to-phone call?

You do not always need to replace your everyday UK SIM to ring a normal Polish telephone number. A specialist country-calling product may be worth pricing if the calls are frequent but you already have UK data and coverage sorted. Talk Home Mobile, for example, has published a Poland Basic SIM plan specifically for calls to Poland. It is a different proposition from an ordinary UK data plan or a wider international-minute allowance; check which UK calls, texts and data, if any, come with the actual bundle, along with number eligibility, expiry, renewal and excess charges. A large printed Poland allowance is of little value if most of it expires unused.

For occasional calls to a relative without a smartphone, a paid app-to-phone service can connect to an ordinary +48 mobile or landline without requiring the person in Poland to install an app. Unlike WhatsApp-to-WhatsApp calls, these use paid calling credit or a subscription. Check separate mobile and landline rates, whole-minute rounding, top-up minimums, connection fees and credit expiry. If the service uses a UK access number rather than mobile data, confirm whether dialling that UK number also costs money on your existing plan. Do not count one service's advertised low rate as the guaranteed price for every Polish number.

Compare the extra cost of these methods against a qualifying Lyca or Lebara SIM only if a replacement UK plan would also meet your everyday needs. The Poland-specific product is a real alternative, not a reason to invent an affiliate route or direct readers to a competing comparison site.

Already on Three, Vodafone, EE or O2? Work out the cost of staying

A person with a suitable UK plan may save more by avoiding an unnecessary change of network than by chasing the lowest headline price on a second SIM. Four common approaches deserve different treatment.

Three: Pay Monthly and PAYG Call Abroad are not the same product

Three's official Call Abroad destination lists include Poland, but its Pay Monthly and PAYG arrangements have different product structures and eligible destination lists. Some provide a specified number of international minutes and others advertise larger allowances, subject to the product's restrictions.

If you already have Three, compare the extra cost of an eligible Poland calling option with the extra cost of buying a separate calling SIM. Confirm the length of the calling period, renewal, supported Polish number types and charges after the allowance. A favourable add-on for an existing customer does not automatically justify taking out a brand-new Three contract.

Vodafone: International Saver is a more relevant first check than generic roaming

Vodafone's published International Saver destination list includes Poland. Depending on your account and tariff, an appropriate Extra may supply international minutes without a main-network switch. Other Vodafone international Extras have different lists and allowances; the name 'Call Abroad' is not interchangeable with 'International Saver'.

Check the exact Extra your account can buy, any automatic recurring charge and whether the minutes reach the recipient's Polish number. The fair comparison is Vodafone UK plan plus international Extra against an eligible replacement Lyca or Lebara UK plan, not the Vodafone Extra fee in isolation. Our Vodafone tariff page can help you compare domestic costs if you are considering a new plan.

EE and O2: distinguish an allowance from a discounted minute rate

EE has international calling options, but the terms depend on the account and product. You may encounter either included minutes or a way to lower the rate for calls that remain chargeable. Being on EE's UK network through Lyca or spusu does not automatically give you EE-branded add-ons or entitlements.

O2 publishes Poland among the destinations for relevant discounted international calling arrangements. An international Bolt On can reduce the rate for an eligible account without giving you a bucket of free calls. Compare any access or Bolt On fee plus the billable calls with the ordinary Poland rate and with an inclusive alternative. PAYG and Pay Monthly products can differ; do not buy one assuming a benefit shown for the other.

How to compare the real cost without trusting a promotional headline

Imagine a person in the UK who makes standard calls to Poland each payment period and needs a normal UK mobile line throughout. Here are three entirely fictional products and prices, chosen to demonstrate the calculation — they are not current offers or rates from any named provider.

Assume all three reach the same standard Polish numbers, have no setup fees or early-exit charges, use identical rounding and cover identical dates.

Billable Poland minutesA: current SIM + PAYGB: replacement SIMC: UK SIM + add-onLowest fictional total
25£12.00£12.00£15.00A and B tie
100£21.00£12.00£15.00B
175£30.00£19.50£15.00C
250£39.00£27.00£21.00C
600£81.00£62.00£63.00B

The calculations are reproducible: A costs £9 + (minutes × £0.12); B costs £12 + (billable minutes over 100 × £0.10); C costs £15 + (billable minutes over 200 × £0.12). At 25 minutes a replacement SIM and staying put tie; at 100 minutes the all-in-one wins; at 175 or 250 minutes the separate add-on wins. But at 600 minutes the all-in-one becomes cheaper again, because its excess-minute rate is lower. For whole billable minutes in this fictional example, the key equal-cost points are 25, 130 and 550 minutes. The cheapest arrangement can change more than once as usage grows, even when coverage and quality are assumed equal.

Apply the method to your actual offers. If a spusu plan includes enough eligible UK-to-EU calls, it belongs in the all-in-one comparison — with the documented allowance and actual contract terms, not an assumption copied from another spusu product. A plan with expensive excess minutes may be ideal at 100 minutes and poor at 300. You also need to count any credit expiry, minimum top-up, auto-renewal and the real renewal price after an offer ends.

For longer-term cost comparisons, do not treat twelve 30-day periods as twelve calendar months: twelve 30-day periods cover 360 days, so maintaining cover across 365 days may require starting a thirteenth period. Keep all comparisons on the same time horizon.

Calling a Polish mobile or landline: +48 and the nine-digit rule

Poland's country code is +48, followed by a nine-digit standard national number. Unlike a UK number, a normal Polish national mobile or landline number does not require removing a domestic leading trunk zero before adding the country code.

For example, a fictional Polish mobile number `501 234 567` is dialled +48 501 234 567. A fictional Warsaw landline `22 123 45 67` becomes +48 22 123 45 67. The two-digit Warsaw geographic area code is already part of the nine digits; Kraków numbers commonly start with geographic area code `12`.

Poland's telecom regulator, UKE, confirms the nine-digit national format and warns about unfamiliar international numbers used in missed-call scams. If a missed call begins with something similar to +48, confirm the full country code before calling back. Read UKE's consumer advice on international missed calls if you are uncertain.

Number type matters more than a familiar prefix

A provider's 'Poland' allowance may cover ordinary mobiles and geographic landlines, but not premium, personal-number, service or other non-standard ranges. A business helpline may not be billed like your relative's ordinary mobile. Number portability also means a mobile prefix does not necessarily identify the network currently carrying that number.

Before buying an allowance for one person, check the full +48 number against the exact product's permitted destination types. Do not rely on a country flag, a city name or a list of example area codes to establish that a call is included.

Five ways an apparently cheap Poland calling plan can cost more

Short calls can consume more billable minutes than the time you spoke. Under a hypothetical whole-minute rounding rule, ten calls lasting 61 seconds each can consume 20 allowance minutes even though total talk time is only 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Products may use different billing increments, so verify the rule if you make many brief calls.

Your Poland minutes may be shared. A single international allowance can also cover calls to Germany, Romania or other countries. If you regularly call several destinations, budget for the combined billable minutes rather than treating each country as a separate full allowance.

A promotion can end before your need does. Compare the first charge, subsequent charges, minimum commitment and what happens after the promotional period. A 30-day rolling contract tells you how long you are committed, not whether a specific discounted price lasts forever.

An add-on can continue after you stop using it. Some products renew automatically, and some prepaid arrangements require credit to make out-of-bundle calls. Review the cancellation and payment rules at checkout. For one-off calls, a low per-minute option can be better than a second recurring charge.

A bigger UK data allowance does not buy extra Poland minutes unless the exact plan says so. Our six live offer cards near the top are useful for UK pricing, data and contract comparison. They must not be read as a Poland minute calculator or a guarantee that an international allowance follows the card when its underlying offer changes.

Keep your UK number, add a second SIM, or use WhatsApp?

Changing a SIM provider does not usually require losing your existing UK number. To request a Porting Authorisation Code from your present network, text PAC to 65075, then give the code to the new provider when switching. Check any early termination charges and do not cancel the old service manually before the transfer. Our guide to keeping your number explains the process; Ofcom sets out the official rules.

If you want to keep your existing network and banking-message number, a dual-SIM handset can use a separate calling SIM alongside your regular UK line. Check whether the product is available as a physical SIM or eSIM, that your handset supports the combination, and which line the phone selects for outgoing calls. Dialling from the wrong line can incur the original operator's standard international rate.

For longer conversations with relatives who have internet access, WhatsApp-to-WhatsApp, Viber-to-Viber or similar app-to-app calls can avoid international voice charges over Wi-Fi. When you use mobile data, they use your data allowance. Ordinary landlines and people who cannot use the app still require a conventional paid or inclusive phone call. Your phone's built-in Wi-Fi Calling is not automatically a free international call — the operator may bill an ordinary +48 call under its international rules.

If most of your contact with Poland is through apps, you might prioritise good UK data and network reception instead of paying more for voice minutes. Our mobile data usage guide helps estimate your UK allowance.

The final choice: three questions

Ask yourself three questions before taking out a new SIM.

1. Is Poland calling part of your daily UK mobile service? If yes, compare eligible Lyca and Lebara plans that include your actual Polish numbers, along with a documented spusu EU-calling option. Keep the UK data, reception, commitment and international minutes in one total-cost comparison. Use the existing cards above and the full UK SIM-only catalogue for currently tracked UK offers; their View Deal buttons preserve each tariff's existing purchase route.

2. Are you happy with your present UK network? If yes, calculate what calling Poland would add to that bill through eligible Three, Vodafone, EE or O2 extras, a Poland-only SIM or a verified paid app-to-phone rate. Do not change an otherwise useful plan just to save a small amount on a few calls.

3. Do you need conventional voice minutes at all? If almost every call is app-to-app over Wi-Fi, a specialist allowance may remain unused. If your relatives need normal calls to +48 mobiles or landlines, concentrate on product-specific destination eligibility and the after-allowance rate.

For calls to other countries, see our UK international calling SIM overview. This guide is specifically about calling Poland from the UK, not using a UK SIM while travelling in Poland.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK SIM is best for calling Poland?

Start with a Lyca or Lebara plan that explicitly includes standard calls to Poland if you need one UK SIM for data and voice. Selected spusu plans are also worth considering because their official contracts document UK-to-EU international calling minutes. For occasional calls or existing contracts, compare an eligible add-on, PAYG or paid app-to-phone service; a dedicated Poland bundle is another option if you call frequently. The cheapest total depends on your own usage and the exact offer.

Do Lebara's international minutes include Poland?

Lebara publicly lists Poland among its international calling destinations and states that eligible included minutes can cover standard mobile and landline calls. Confirm the allowance and exclusions on the particular UK tariff you order, especially the out-of-bundle rate.

Can I call Poland with Lyca Mobile?

Yes, Poland appears on destination lists for selected Lyca products with international calling minutes. That does not guarantee that every Lyca SIM shown in a UK data catalogue includes the same allowance. Check the exact product and permitted Polish number types.

Does spusu include calls from the UK to Poland?

Official contract summaries for selected spusu UK products document international calling minutes from the UK to EU destinations, separately from EU roaming. Poland is an EU country. Check that your current chosen tariff includes this benefit and that the recipient's number is eligible; do not assume identical allowances across every plan.

Does EU roaming mean calls to Poland are free?

No. Using a UK SIM while physically in Poland is roaming. Calling +48 from the UK is an international call. A plan needs an applicable international or EU-calling allowance for those calls to be included.

Does Vodafone International Saver cover Poland?

Poland appears in Vodafone's published International Saver destination list. You still need an eligible Extra on your account, and its charge and included minutes sit alongside your regular UK service cost.

Does Three have a Poland calling add-on?

Three names Poland among destinations for relevant Call Abroad products. Its PAYG and Pay Monthly versions can have different terms, validity and allowances. Check which product your account can actually use.

How do I dial a Polish mobile or landline from Britain?

Dial +48 followed by the standard nine-digit Polish national number, such as the fictional mobile example +48 501 234 567. Normally there is no leading domestic zero to remove. Check the recipient's full number if in doubt.

Are WhatsApp calls to Poland free?

An app-to-app call over Wi-Fi avoids the mobile network's conventional international calling charge when both people use the service, although broadband or mobile data may still cost money. It is not a free way to dial an arbitrary Polish landline or ordinary mobile number through the phone dialler.

Should I change network just to make calls to Poland?

Not necessarily. Compare the extra Poland-call cost on your existing SIM with the full price of a replacement UK SIM that meets your everyday requirements. Any current commitment, coverage differences, switching costs and need for a second number can outweigh a lower advertised calling rate.

Bottom line: choose an allowance that covers the Polish numbers you actually call, and replace your everyday SIM only when the new plan improves the overall UK service and international-calling value for you. Eligible Lyca and Lebara plans offer clear partner-supported starting points; spusu’s documented UK-to-EU minutes and add-ons on your present network are alternatives worth comparing on their merits.
