No Credit Check SIM Only Deals in the UK: Which Networks Don’t Check?

A poor, thin or new UK credit file does not automatically rule out mobile service. The key is choosing a plan paid before you use it, rather than a traditional pay-monthly contract billed after the fact.

Phone, SIM card and note about no-credit-check SIM-only plans

“SIM-only” and “no credit check” are not interchangeable. SIM-only simply means there is no handset included. Whether an application is credit checked depends on the provider and, crucially, the way that specific plan is billed.

Before buying: provider policies and eligibility can change. This is a guide to product types and published provider wording, not a guarantee of acceptance or a substitute for the final terms at checkout.

Why paying upfront usually changes the answer

A credit check is commonly used where a provider is supplying service before it is paid for. With a prepaid or paid-upfront plan, you pay first and then use the allowance. That is why many providers can offer a different route without treating it as a normal pay-monthly credit agreement.

Automatic renewal does not change the basic question. A 30-day plan that renews from a payment card can still be an upfront service, while a 30-day pay-monthly contract can be assessed differently. Read the exact plan label and terms.

Providers with published no-credit-check SIM routes

SMARTY

SMARTY says its SIM-only plans do not need a credit check and are paid upfront on a rolling basis. That can suit someone who already owns a compatible phone and wants a short commitment.

giffgaff

giffgaff states that it does not run a credit check for a SIM plan or its 18-month SIM-only contract. This does not extend to handset finance: a phone bought through Klarna is a separate arrangement with separate eligibility.

Lebara, Asda Mobile and spusu

Lebara and Asda Mobile currently publish no-credit-check wording for their qualifying SIM plans or bundles. spusu’s current flexible monthly plan summary also states that no credit check is required. Compare network coverage, data, roaming and the ongoing price as carefully as the initial headline.

Talkmobile

Talkmobile says its SIM-only proposition does not use a traditional credit check. That wording should not be confused with automatic acceptance: providers can still take steps to verify identity, prevent fraud or authorise payment.

PAYG can be the answer — but product labels matter

Vodafone’s Pay as you go Plus service is explicitly described as no-contract and no-credit-check. O2 also says its PAYG/rolling route does not need a credit check, while its pay-monthly route does. iD Mobile and Lyca Mobile similarly distinguish their PAYG options from their pay-monthly SIM products.

This is why a blanket statement such as “Vodafone does not check credit” is misleading. The answer is different for Pay as you go Plus and for a Vodafone Pay Monthly SIM-only contract.

What about VOXI, 1pMobile, EE, Three and Tesco Mobile?

Many of these brands offer short-term or PAYG-style services, but product wording and eligibility rules can change. We do not publish a blanket no-credit-check claim unless it is clearly stated on the provider’s current official page. If one of these networks is the best fit for coverage or price, open the live offer, read the checkout terms and confirm before submitting an application.

For EE, Three and Tesco Mobile in particular, do not assume a standard pay-monthly SIM-only contract has the same eligibility as a PAYG product. The product type matters more than the name on the mast.

What “no credit check” does and does not mean

How to choose a no-credit-check SIM

  1. Check local coverage first. A low-cost plan is not useful if the underlying network is weak where you live, work or travel.
  2. Look at the ongoing price. A cheap introductory offer can change after a few months.
  3. Choose the commitment you need. Rolling plans can be useful when you want the option to reassess soon.
  4. Check the data allowance. Do not pay for unlimited data if your normal use is far lower.
  5. Read the final terms. The provider’s checkout and plan terms are the deciding source.

Keeping your number

A change of plan type does not normally mean losing your mobile number. Text PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep, then give the code to the new provider. Leave the old service active until the transfer has completed.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK networks offer a no-credit-check SIM?

SMARTY, giffgaff, Lebara, Talkmobile, Asda Mobile and spusu currently publish no-credit-check wording for qualifying SIM plans. Vodafone and O2 also publish no-credit-check PAYG routes. The exact product matters, so confirm the plan type at checkout.

Is every SIM-only plan available without a credit check?

No. SIM-only describes a service without a handset; it does not say how the service is billed. A pay-monthly SIM-only contract can be credit checked, while a prepaid or PAYG option from the same provider may not be.

Does giffgaff do a credit check?

giffgaff says it does not run a credit check for a SIM plan or its 18-month SIM-only contract. Handset finance through Klarna is a separate product and may involve its own eligibility checks.

Does no credit check mean guaranteed acceptance?

No. Providers can still use identity, fraud-prevention, address, payment-card and other eligibility checks. No credit check does not mean that every order will be accepted.

Will a no-credit-check SIM improve my credit score?

Usually not. Prepaid and pay-upfront plans should not be assumed to report regular payments to credit reference agencies. Ask the provider if credit building is your goal.

Can I keep my existing number?

Usually, yes. Text PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep, then give the code to the new provider. Do not cancel the old service before the transfer completes.
