Lyca Mobile vs VOXI: Which SIM Offers Better Value?

Short answer: Lyca Mobile is the stronger starting point if EE coverage works where you use your phone and you need eligible international calling minutes or included European roaming. VOXI can give better value if Vodafone coverage is stronger locally and its supported UK social, music or video apps save enough ordinary mobile data. Both offer flexible 30-day SIM options, plus eSIM, 5G and Wi-Fi Calling on qualifying phones and plans. The winner depends on your actual app use, overseas numbers, travel and complete renewal cost.

These brands solve different problems. Lyca can bundle conventional calls to selected overseas destinations; VOXI saves data used by supported UK apps, subject to exclusions. Calling a relative abroad is not the same as calling them through WhatsApp, and watching YouTube within a qualifying VOXI Video plan is not the same as having unlimited internet for every app.

If both signals work, compare the general-purpose data you actually use and the extras you can avoid buying. VOXI may be worth paying more for if its qualifying app usage genuinely reduces your ordinary-data needs. Lyca may be better even at the same UK data allowance if you call family overseas or travel in Europe several times a year.

Which has better UK coverage: Lyca or VOXI?

There is no national winner for every address. Lyca is an EE-hosted virtual network. VOXI operates on Vodafone-related infrastructure and advertises eligible shared Vodafone-and-Three access as integration progresses. That is a comparison of underlying network arrangements, not a claim that a VOXI SIM can use every Three site today or that Lyca receives every premium EE retail feature.

Use Ofcom's Map Your Mobile checker for the postcodes where reception matters: your home, workplace, the commute and any rural or coastal locations you visit. Compare EE for Lyca against Vodafone for VOXI, then check VOXI's own eligibility and coverage information for additional shared-network benefits. Look at predicted indoor 4G and outdoor 5G separately. A national population percentage cannot tell you whether a video call will work in one particular building.

Is Lyca as fast as EE, and will VOXI benefit from Three's network?

Lyca using EE does not prove that its speeds, 5G access or traffic handling are identical to every EE-branded retail tariff. VOXI's shared-network marketing likewise does not prove the same sites or conditions apply everywhere. The VodafoneThree rollout is location- and service-dependent; neither host-network label certifies the exact throughput of your handset.

A phone marked 5G needs coverage, compatible bands and a suitable plan. In real life, local congestion and indoor radio conditions often matter more than a provider's maximum advertised speed. There are no controlled DealPriceCheck head-to-head tests of these two SIMs at your postcode, so we do not invent a speed winner. For technical background, see our MVNO coverage and speeds guide and Lyca Mobile review, including its coverage analysis.

If you have an old or imported handset, verify VoLTE (4G Calling) and Wi-Fi Calling, not simply 4G data support. UK 3G networks have been withdrawn; a handset able to browse on 4G is not automatically provisioned for reliable 4G voice calls on every provider.

Which is cheaper: Lyca or VOXI on a 30-day SIM?

The first advertised payment is not the cost of keeping a SIM. Lyca has several 30-day bundles with an introductory price that changes at renewal, while VOXI sells rolling plans whose general-data allowances and promotions can also vary. Some VOXI promotions boost data temporarily for new joiners. A large promoted allowance is not evidence that the same offer will be available forever.

A Lyca 24-month Unlimited is another product, but a two-year minimum term isn't an honest like-for-like comparison against VOXI's rolling Unlimited plan. If you choose to investigate Lyca's longer-term options, work out the whole commitment separately.

Why the cheapest Lyca introductory deal may not be the cheapest over a year

Consider this fictional pair of suitable 30-day plans, not current prices from either operator. Plan A charges £4 for the first renewal, then £10; Plan B charges £9 every 30 days. If you need continuous service across 365 days, you need 13 consecutive 30-day periods, because 12 × 30 = 360 days.

Hypothetical 365-day coverCalculationTotal paid
Plan A: £4 once, then £10 per cycle£4 + 12 × £10£124
Plan B: £9 for every cycle13 × £9£117
Actual difference£124 − £117Plan B costs £7 less

Plan A wins the first bill but loses this particular year's comparison. That is why we do not turn a one-off Lyca promotion into a permanent annual saving. Your actual figures must come from the current card, the final checkout and each renewal date. The final cycle may extend past day 365; it is a purchase required to keep service continuously active, not a claim that the thirteenth 30-day period fits wholly within a calendar year.

Why can VOXI's Unlimited apps change the price comparison?

Suppose you use 25GB a month in total, of which 15GB is ordinary web browsing, maps, cloud sync and messaging calls, while 10GB is qualifying supported Social Media or Video traffic in the UK. A suitable VOXI plan could leave that eligible 10GB outside its metered allowance, allowing you to consider a smaller ordinary-data tier. Lyca would normally need to cover all 25GB with its regular allowance.

The reverse is just as important. If most of your usage is WhatsApp video calls, laptop downloads, TikTok or streaming through apps not included on your exact VOXI tier, the supposed data saving may be much smaller. Also, spending most of the day on home Wi-Fi does not establish a large mobile-data saving. Check your handset's mobile data by app, not general screen time.

VOXI's unlimited-app inclusion may make a mid-sized general-data plan feel larger, but it is not equivalent to a genuine unlimited-data SIM. Use the SIMs for streaming guide if your data needs are hard to estimate.

VOXI Endless Social Media, Music and Video: which apps count?

VOXI's advantage is zero-rated qualifying app traffic in the UK, rather than extra general-purpose gigabytes. Its published benefits identify specific apps and content types: Social Media is offered broadly, while Music and Video depend on the exact plan. Check the particular VOXI offer for which Endless categories it actually includes, as our catalogue cards do not reliably encode all app-tier entitlements.

VOXI benefitSupported examples in VOXI's published UK listWhat is not automatically included
Unlimited Social MediaWhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Facebook Messenger, Pinterest, X/TwitterVoice and video calls; ordinary websites opened from an app; some third-party content
Unlimited Music, where includedSpotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, TIDAL, RAYO and other listed music servicesPodcast and audiobook listening; subscriptions; unrelated traffic
Unlimited Video, where includedYouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, My5Paid video subscriptions; advertising and external content; unsupported apps

Do not assume TikTok, every music app or every video service qualifies. TikTok was not named in VOXI's supported Social Media or Video list checked for this article, although VOXI also markets some plans to TikTok users. That is not evidence of permanent inclusion or exclusion: check the provider's eligible-app terms for the selected offer. Apple iCloud Private Relay, a VPN or other services that mask your IP address may also prevent VOXI from recognising eligible app traffic, causing it to use your ordinary allowance. VOXI does not supply a Netflix subscription merely because qualifying Netflix streaming is zero-rated; third-party content within supported apps may still use ordinary data.

Does WhatsApp calling use up VOXI data?

Yes, it can. VOXI explicitly excludes making and receiving voice and video calls from its Unlimited Social Media benefit. Ordinary chat messages may be covered, but a long WhatsApp video call uses the general data allowance, and an international video call isn't an included international phone minute either.

This matters to families. Someone who sends Instagram messages and scrolls Snapchat could benefit from VOXI's social-media exemption. Someone who speaks to relatives abroad on WhatsApp video for hours should compare ordinary mobile data and local signal, not assume VOXI covers the call just because it displays the WhatsApp logo.

Does VOXI Endless still work after ordinary data runs out?

No. VOXI says you must have some ordinary general-purpose data left for qualifying Unlimited Social Media, Music and Video to remain active. A tiny remaining amount may keep the exemption eligible, but a fully exhausted normal allowance cannot be treated as a free unlimited connection.

The benefit is also not a universal pass for adverts, embedded external videos, links, downloads, maps, email, hotspot operating-system updates or games. Some of those activities can be substantial data consumers. If you plan around an unlimited-app exemption, read VOXI's current supported-app and network-traffic conditions at checkout.

Can I share VOXI Endless through a hotspot?

VOXI says qualifying Social Media, Music or Video use can retain its unlimited-app benefit when another phone, tablet or laptop connects through your hotspot. That does not make the entire connection unlimited. A laptop using an eligible service may receive the exemption, while cloud backups, browser tabs, updates and other non-eligible usage still use the standard data pot.

For Lyca, ordinary UK tethering is a separate matter from its EU roaming exclusion. UK hotspot rights depend on the product and fair-use rules, and eligible general-purpose usage consumes your Lyca data allowance. For regular work from a laptop, compare real allowance, local performance and the hotspot and tethering guide.

International calls: when is Lyca better value than VOXI?

Lyca is the better starting point for conventional overseas calling when an eligible bundle includes the destination and number type you dial. A qualifying Lyca National Plus plan, for example, has advertised 100 international minutes to selected countries. That is a real type of product benefit, but not a promise that every Lyca SIM includes 100 minutes or covers the same destinations.

VOXI's ordinary unlimited UK minutes do not turn calls to overseas numbers into unlimited international calls. Depending on destination and product, separate rates or extras may apply. Compare the total number of chargeable minutes from the UK, not simply whether both providers advertise unlimited UK calls and texts.

A worked international-calling example

Hypothetical, not a published VOXI rate: you call an eligible overseas mobile for 90 minutes a month. If a qualifying Lyca bundle includes those 90 minutes and another SIM would charge 20p per minute to that exact destination and number type, the separate calls would add £18 per month (90 × £0.20). That could easily outweigh a small difference in the SIM's monthly charge.

For a person who makes one two-minute overseas call every few months, the calculation may favour VOXI or whichever plan has the lower ordinary cost. A dedicated calling allowance may have little value if you never use it. The right questions are: which country, landline or mobile, which prefix, how many minutes, what happens after the allowance and what would VOXI actually charge?

For a concrete starting point, examine Lyca National Plus 30GB and all current Lyca offers. Confirm the international-minute allowance on the selected SKU at purchase. Our international calling SIM guide explains the difference between included minutes, add-ons and per-minute charges.

Calling abroad from the UK is not roaming abroad

Calling an Indian, Polish or Nigerian number from your UK home is international calling. Taking your UK SIM to India, Poland or Nigeria and using local mobile data is roaming. The operator's included country lists, number types and fair-use limits can differ. A bundle may include calls to a destination without including roaming there, or vice versa.

Likewise, WhatsApp or Signal app calls are internet traffic, not conventional phone minutes. Whether VOXI zero-rates eligible ordinary messages doesn't tell you how it charges a WhatsApp call. If overseas calling is the reason you switch, check the regular voice dialling destination instead of assuming an app perk solves it.

Lyca vs VOXI EU roaming: which costs less on holiday?

Lyca is usually the simpler starting point for eligible European travel without a paid pass, but you must check its plan-specific cap and hotspot restriction. VOXI often requires an extra European Roaming Pass, yet some destinations fall into an exception zone. Neither brand provides unlimited overseas data merely because a UK plan says Unlimited.

App streaming abroadCounts against the roaming allowance according to bundle and rulesUnlimited Social Media, Music and Video are UK-only and don't apply abroad
Hotspot in EU zonePublished Lyca EU terms exclude tethering/data sharingCheck the pass and ordinary-data fair use; no overseas Endless exemption

The relevant Lyca cap is not a universal 35GB. A small Lyca 6GB card on DealPriceCheck records a smaller EU allowance than the 30GB National Plus card, while a qualifying unlimited product can advertise a different ceiling. Likewise, VOXI's 20GB is a maximum of available ordinary data, not a bonus bundle. A VOXI plan with only 8GB of available general data cannot yield 20GB abroad simply because a pass mentions that ceiling.

Which EU countries need a VOXI roaming pass?

VOXI's published pass-free exceptions are the Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Iceland and Norway. Many other eligible destinations, including typical trips to France, Spain or Italy, require the European Roaming Pass. Check the live zone list before travelling, especially for border regions, islands and territories. A destination's place on a map does not determine its billing zone.

VOXI publishes passes for different durations; the pass begins counting down when you buy it, not when you first use your SIM overseas. You can therefore waste paid days by buying too early. Eligible use still counts against the general-purpose allowance or its roaming fair-use ceiling, whichever is smaller, and the UK Endless benefits do not carry over. VOXI's published Wi-Fi Calling terms also say it is not supported while roaming, so don't treat it as a guaranteed travel-calling workaround.

A holiday-cost test that can change the winner

Hypothetical comparison: assume a VOXI plan costs £2 less per 30-day cycle than the suitable Lyca alternative. Across thirteen cycles of continuous service, it saves £26 before extras. If VOXI roaming passes for your qualifying holidays would cost you a hypothetical £35 in that period, VOXI becomes £9 dearer overall, all else equal.

If you take no trips requiring passes, VOXI may keep the saving and still give you useful UK app benefits. If your Lyca plan doesn't cover a particular travel destination, the arithmetic can reverse again. For current roaming options, see our UK EU-roaming SIM guide.

Can Lyca users tether a laptop in Europe?

Do not assume so. Lyca's published EU Roaming Zone policy explicitly lists mobile data sharing or tethering as unavailable. This is more restrictive than ordinary UK tethering. If you need a mobile hotspot for a laptop during a trip, compare a VOXI roaming pass and its hotspot rules, or another operator's roaming product, before buying the Lyca SIM for travel.

Both operators require advance preparation for international use. Lyca instructs customers to activate their SIM/eSIM in the United Kingdom, and VOXI's terms also require SIM activation in the UK or roaming will not be enabled. Do not rely on first-time activation at an overseas airport. For trips lasting weeks or months, also check destination zones, fair use and extended-usage restrictions, not just the headline GB ceiling.

Are Lyca and VOXI equally flexible? Contracts and renewals

Both brands offer 30-day service, but the billing model can differ. Lyca 30-day bundles can renew automatically according to account settings and payment or credit arrangements; VOXI is a recurring subscription charged every 30 days. Neither is the same as a 24-month fixed-term plan.

If you intend to use a SIM for only a few weeks, read the cancellation, account-balance and refund rules. An auto-renewing 30-day SIM is not necessarily a one-off purchase. A Lyca 24-month offer may make sense for somebody prepared to stay two years, but that term cannot be compared with a flexible VOXI subscription without counting the extra commitment.

Does VOXI's price-locked language guarantee the same data and features forever?

VOXI markets relevant plans as price-locked. A stated monthly price commitment does not mean the same promotional data boost is always open to new joiners, that paid roaming passes are free, or that the list of zero-rated apps can never change. The binding condition is the offer you take and the provider's current terms, not a third-party screen capture of a promotion.

Lyca's 30-day price may change at renewal after a joining discount, even when the card labels the current product as having no annual in-contract rises. No annual rise and no introductory step-up mean different things. The actual payment schedule is what determines value.

What about eSIM, 5G, Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling?

Both Lyca and VOXI support eSIM and Wi-Fi Calling, contrary to some older comparison tables. Lyca supplies eSIM on eligible products; VOXI lets new customers choose eSIM at an eligible checkout and existing customers switch using their account tools. Each requires a compatible phone and successful activation.

Lyca uses the EE network. VOXI uses Vodafone-related infrastructure, with developing shared VodafoneThree features. Both market 5G on eligible products, but no general comparison page can guarantee a particular speed or that every 5G/5G+ capability is available to all of their customers.

For indoor voice calls, verify Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling/VoLTE against the exact handset and provider's compatibility information. This matters for older and imported phones, especially after the UK 3G switch-off. See our Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE guide and Lyca eSIM activation guide.

Can I keep my number when switching between VOXI and Lyca?

Usually yes. On a qualifying single-line UK mobile number, text PAC to 65075 from the operator you're leaving and give the code to the new provider. For a switch without keeping your number, text STAC to 75075; INFO to 85075 helps check contractual obligations. A PAC is normally valid for 30 days, and eligible switches ordinarily complete within one working day after the new operator receives the code.

A PAC doesn't waive legitimate unpaid obligations or any separate handset finance. Test your new network with a temporary number or second SIM before porting an essential work or banking number if coverage is uncertain. Read Ofcom's mobile switching advice or our number-switching guide.

Lyca Mobile vs VOXI: FAQs

Is Lyca Mobile better than VOXI?

It is the stronger starting point if EE coverage works for you and you regularly need its eligible overseas calling minutes or included European roaming. VOXI can be the better fit if Vodafone coverage works better or supported UK social, music or video exemptions save enough ordinary mobile data to justify the total charge.

Does Lyca use VOXI's network?

No. Lyca uses EE, while VOXI uses Vodafone-related infrastructure with advertised eligible VodafoneThree sharing. They do not provide the same underlying network service or retail benefits.

Is VOXI's Unlimited Social Media really unlimited?

Only for qualifying use on named supported services in the UK, while ordinary data remains. WhatsApp calls and video calls, some external content and roaming use ordinary data. Music and Video depend on the exact qualifying plan.

Does VOXI Endless include TikTok, YouTube and Netflix?

YouTube and Netflix appear on VOXI's published Video list, not merely as part of basic Social Media. TikTok isn't on the named published Social Media or Video list reviewed for this guide, so don't assume it's included; confirm the latest supported-app list for the specific plan.

Does Lyca include international calls to every country?

No. Qualifying bundles include a specified number of minutes to selected overseas numbers. Coverage differs by destination and mobile or landline type, and some bundles have no identical allowance. Check your actual country and number prefix.

Is Lyca's EU roaming free?

Eligible Lyca plans include roaming in published European destinations up to a plan-specific allowance. There is no unlimited-data promise, and Lyca's EU policy excludes mobile tethering and data sharing. Always check eligibility and fair use.

Does VOXI offer free European roaming?

In many European destinations VOXI needs a paid roaming pass; it lists the Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Iceland and Norway as pass-free exceptions. Its normal UK Endless-app benefits do not work abroad, and the roaming data ceiling is the smaller of your available ordinary data or 20GB.

Can I tether with VOXI or Lyca?

Normal UK tethering depends on the plan and device. VOXI says qualifying Endless apps may retain their UK exemption when tethered; other traffic consumes ordinary data. Lyca's published EU-zone roaming rules exclude tethering, so don't confuse that with UK hotspot use.

Do VOXI and Lyca both offer eSIM and Wi-Fi Calling?

Yes, for eligible accounts and compatible handsets. VOXI has a new-customer eSIM checkout option, and Lyca sells eligible eSIM bundles. Both describe Wi-Fi Calling, subject to device and provisioning requirements.

Which is cheaper over twelve months?

There is no permanent winner. Count the first and later payments over the same service dates, roaming passes and overseas-call costs. Twelve 30-day bundles last only 360 days, so uninterrupted 365-day cover typically needs a thirteenth renewal; a low introductory price alone cannot answer the question.

Can I keep my number moving between Lyca and VOXI?

Normally yes. Ask your current operator for a PAC by texting PAC to 65075, give it to the new provider and check your previous account's contractual obligations. You can move in either direction.

Verdict: Lyca Mobile or VOXI?

Start with Lyca if the EE network is reliable where you use your phone, your eligible overseas calls save you separate charges, or its included European roaming suits your travel. Compare the Lyca 30GB National Plus card and current Lyca offers before buying.

Start with VOXI if Vodafone-related signal works better or you genuinely use supported Social Media, Music or Video apps on mobile data in the UK. Use VOXI's current 30-day catalogue to check which Endless categories the exact plan includes, the ordinary GB and the EU roaming charges.

If coverage is good on both, choose the one that fits your real behaviour: included overseas voice minutes and roaming, or fewer metered UK app gigabytes. A benefit you barely use is not worth paying more for.

DealPriceCheck compares selected UK SIM-only offers and may earn a commission from eligible partner purchases. Prices, promotions, app eligibility, roaming zones and network access can change; check the live plan card and the provider's final terms before ordering.
