Comparison
Lebara vs EE: Is EE Worth Paying More For?
Short answer: Choose Lebara first when Vodafone reception is good at the places you use your phone, you want a flexible SIM, or its included international calls and roaming will save you money. EE can justify a higher price if its network is noticeably better where you need it, or a qualifying EE speed tier, Data Gifting, Stay Connected Data or another premium benefit is genuinely valuable. Lebara uses Vodafone; EE uses its own network. Neither name alone tells you which plan is best.
Key facts at a glance:
- Coverage: compare Vodafone for Lebara against EE, particularly indoors, at work and along your commute.
- Commitment: Lebara has 30-day bundles and a separate 12-month range. EE sells flexible products and longer contracts, including 24 months, with different price-change rules.
- 5G: both offer 5G on eligible devices and plans. Some EE tariffs have an advertised maximum speed even though they support 5G.
- International calls: qualifying Lebara bundles include minutes to selected overseas destinations; EE's charges and add-ons depend on the tariff and number called.
- Roaming: eligible Lebara Roam Like Home data is capped at the smaller of the UK allowance and 30GB in included destinations, including India. EE's roaming inclusion is plan-specific.
- Extra features: EE Data Gifting, Stay Connected Data, higher speeds and Inclusive Extras are not automatic on every EE SIM.

Lebara vs EE at a glance
| What matters | Lebara | EE retail |
|---|---|---|
| Underlying UK network | Vodafone-hosted mobile service | EE's own UK radio network |
| UK 4G/5G | 4G and eligible 5G on a compatible phone | 4G and eligible 5G/5G+ with plan and device restrictions |
| Short-term plans | 30-day rolling bundles | Eligible flexible 30-day and separate prepaid options |
| Longer-term plans | Separate 12-month range | Multiple pay-monthly terms, including selected 24-month plans |
| Advertised speed policy | Check Lebara's offer, device and coverage; no evidence of an automatic EE-equivalent premium tier | Plan-dependent caps on some lower tiers; eligible premium tiers can be uncapped |
| Unused or exhausted data | No EE-style Data Gifting or universal rollover promise | Data Gifting and reduced-speed Stay Connected on qualifying plans |
| UK calls and texts | Check the plan; small Lebara bundles can have finite UK minutes and texts | Current mainstream EE pay-monthly examples generally include unlimited UK calls and texts |
| Calls from the UK to overseas numbers | Eligible bundles include destination-specific international minutes | International add-ons or destination-specific charges may be needed |
| Europe/India roaming | Eligible Roam Like Home: European destinations and India; up to the smaller of UK allowance and 30GB | Included on some qualifying tiers; other plans require a pass or charge |
| Price changes | Advertised no annual rises on current eligible plans; 30-day future renewal prices are not permanently guaranteed | Scheduled annual pound-and-pence increases on eligible contracts, plus any promotional step-ups |
| eSIM and Wi-Fi Calling | Available with significant new-customer eSIM device restrictions | Available on suitable products and devices, with a separate activation process |
| Strongest reason to choose | Vodafone signal, flexible cost, international calls and included roaming | Stronger local EE signal or specific higher-tier features that earn their premium |
If EE is the only network with dependable reception inside your home, that may justify paying more. If Vodafone works just as well where you actually go, ask what measurable benefit the EE premium buys you.
Is Lebara as good as EE for UK coverage?
Yes, where Vodafone works well. Lebara uses Vodafone’s UK mobile network, while EE uses its own. Ofcom lists Lebara under Vodafone, so you should compare Vodafone with EE at the actual addresses you use, rather than assuming either brand has a nationwide advantage.
Use the independent Ofcom mobile coverage checker for home, work, your regular commute and any rural area you visit often. Check the predicted indoor and outdoor 4G/5G results separately. Coverage maps are useful filters, but thick walls, train carriages, local congestion and your handset can change the real result. National population coverage does not establish that your office has a usable signal.
| What you find locally | Where to start | What to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Vodafone strong indoors; EE weak | Lebara | Device features, the right allowance and calling/roaming terms |
| EE strong indoors; Vodafone weak | EE | Exact speed tier, cost of its contract and cancellation terms |
| Both work reliably | Compare cost and extras | No reason to pay for unused EE premium features |
| Both weak indoors | Check Wi-Fi Calling on your handset | Provisioning, broadband reliability and a practical network test |
| Mixed coverage along your commute | Trial the weaker-looking network first | Train, road and workplace reception rather than postcode averages |
A prepaid or genuinely short-term SIM is a sensible test before taking a two-year commitment. If your existing handset supports dual SIM, a trial is easier, but first verify physical SIM or eSIM activation eligibility. Using an older phone? The UK's 3G networks have closed. Some old handsets may still make voice calls over 2G where available, but can no longer rely on 3G mobile data; check 4G and 4G Calling (VoLTE) before switching. Ofcom explains the 3G switch-off. Our guide to Vodafone-network providers explains Lebara's host network, and our EE-network guide separates EE retail from other brands that rent its infrastructure.
Does VodafoneThree network sharing make Lebara's coverage equal to EE?
No such conclusion follows. Vodafone and Three are combining UK infrastructure, and some directly sold Vodafone and Three services advertise benefits as sites are shared. That is not evidence that every Lebara customer automatically receives every shared-network capability. Nor does it establish that EE and Lebara have identical rural 5G availability or indoor performance. Treat new network-sharing claims as specific to the service and rollout stage, not as a replacement for checking reception.
Is EE faster than Lebara on 5G?
EE can be faster, but not on every phone, plan or street. Independent reports sometimes rank the EE network ahead of Vodafone nationally. Those measurements mix geography, handsets and plans, and are not controlled head-to-head tests of the two SIM products at your address.
There is a catch: some EE 5G tariffs have a maximum speed. Recent EE shop listings have shown a No Frills product capped at 10Mbps, an Essentials product at 100Mbps, and qualifying premium plans described as uncapped. However, other EE pages and older tariff versions use different limits for similarly named products. These are examples, not universal rules for the plan families. Read the maximum-speed line on the specific offer and contract summary: '5G' does not necessarily mean unrestricted speed, and 'uncapped' does not guarantee a particular speed at a busy mast.
For messaging, navigation and ordinary phone video, a reliable capped tariff may be sufficient. For large downloads, hotspot work or demanding 5G use, the difference can matter. An uncapped tariff removes its advertised artificial ceiling; it does not promise a particular speed on a crowded mast. Read our guide to UK SIM-only speed limits before paying for a faster tier.
Is Lebara cheaper than EE over 12 months?
Often, but only when you compare suitable plans and the same period. Lebara positions itself as the budget alternative, yet its promotional comparison with EE is a selected marketing example, not proof that every Lebara allowance beats every EE offer. EE sometimes sells special offers, add-a-line rates, broadband-linked discounts or cheaper capped tiers. A 5GB Lebara bundle must not be compared to a much larger EE plan as if they provide identical value.
For a fair shortlist, first match your normal UK data use and call allowance. Then calculate the whole sequence of payments, not the first advertised month. Finally add any roaming, overseas calls or services that you would otherwise pay for. A premium network can be a rational purchase when it reliably solves a coverage problem; a free subscription is worth nothing to someone who would never buy it.
A 12-month cost example: what can a price difference actually save?
The following plans and prices are hypothetical, not quotes for Lebara or EE. They show how to compare an eligible flexible 30-day bundle with an eligible calendar-month rolling contract over approximately one year, assuming both provide enough data and calls for you.
| Example payment pattern | What you pay | Total cash outlay |
|---|---|---|
| Flexible 30-day bundle at £8 per renewal | 13 × £8 to maintain uninterrupted service across 365 days | £104 |
| Calendar-month rolling plan at £13, no rate change | 12 × £13 | £156 |
| Difference in cash paid for continuous service | £156 − £104 | £52 |
Why 13 renewals? Twelve 30-day periods cover 360 days, not an ordinary 365-day year. The thirteenth renewal provides another 30-day period and runs past day 365; the unused days may not be refundable. The second hypothetical product must genuinely bill by calendar month for this comparison. Real mobile bills can also include start-date proration, price changes and add-ons, so record the dates as well as the headline amount.
What if EE requires a 24-month minimum term?
Then twelve months of payments are not the whole obligation. A fictional EE contract charging £15 for each of its first 12 months shows £180 leaving your account, but if its 24-month commitment continues, another 12 months remain, potentially at an increased rate. If you leave early, the relevant exit charge is determined by your contract, not by how many months you hoped to use it.
| Buyer decision | Compare this, not just the headline |
|---|---|
| Stay for a year and remain free to leave | Lebara 30-day bundle vs an actually flexible EE rolling product; or a clearly eligible 12-month product with its own obligations |
| Stay for exactly 12 months under a minimum term | Full 12-month liability, not a 30-day bundle presented as the same thing |
| Stay for 24 months | Every scheduled EE payment against the appropriate Lebara contract or sufficient 30-day renewals |
| Might move or change jobs | Likely early-termination charge and the value of testing coverage before committing |
Do not assume EE always costs more over a full term: a suitable EE special offer or household discount may narrow the gap. Compare current EE plans with the latest Lebara cards instead of relying on frozen savings claims.
EE annual price rises versus Lebara renewal prices
EE publishes scheduled pound-and-pence annual increases for eligible pay-monthly contracts. Under its published policy, the increase normally falls on 31 March during the minimum term, with separate rules after that term. The amount depends on the contract start date and product. Check the exact pound increase and first applicable date in your contract summary, then add each affected payment to your comparison. An introductory price ending and a contractual annual rise are separate charges, and both may affect the total.
Lebara advertises no yearly price rises on its eligible current SIM-only range, but that does not mean the price of a flexible 30-day bundle is legally guaranteed for every future renewal. A Lebara 12-month product is also a different commitment from its cancel-anytime bundles. Check the contract summary for the exact term and charging method.
For intuition, an illustrative twelve-payment contract costing £15 for six payments and £17.50 for the next six totals £195, rather than the £180 implied by twelve payments at the starting rate. This is deliberately not an EE forecast: your sign-up date, actual price-change date and offer determine the real amount. Our SIM-only price rises guide explains the rules in more detail.
What do you get by paying extra for EE?
Potentially more than faster mobile data, but the extras are tariff-specific. The strongest reasons to buy EE retail are reliable local EE coverage, access to a genuinely useful higher performance tier, qualifying household benefits or a paid service you already value. A budget EE plan does not automatically include everything advertised for EE's premium range.
EE Data Gifting and Stay Connected Data
On eligible EE account plans, Data Gifting lets the account manager transfer some available data to another qualifying SIM on the same account. This can be useful for a family member who runs low halfway through a month. Gifted data does not accumulate into a multi-month rollover bank; eligibility depends on the tariff and account configuration.
EE's Stay Connected Data is another practical feature on qualifying plans. When you use your allowance, you can stay online at a reduced speed that EE has described as 0.5Mbps, enough for essential messaging, emails and light tasks but not a substitute for a normal streaming or hotspot allowance. It may be included or require a paid option depending on the contract.
Lebara should not be described as having those EE-branded features. With Lebara, check what happens at your allowance limit, your PAYG balance, add-ons and renewal options. If you rarely run out of data or share an account with other SIMs, EE's extras may never save you money.
EE Inclusive Extras, 5G+ and premium access
Some higher EE tiers advertise services such as an Inclusive Extra, higher speed treatment, advanced network capabilities, or eligible roaming. They are not necessarily included on a basic No Frills or Essentials SIM, and not all compatible phones can use every new network feature.
Calculate the benefit rather than counting icons. Suppose an eligible EE tariff costs £6 a month more than a suitable Lebara option. That is £72 over twelve months before any increases. If the only useful extra would otherwise cost you £3 a month, the subscription alone recovers £36, not £72. Stronger reception might still justify the balance, but that is a separate reason.
EE's retail service also has physical shops and direct-account support options. Lebara offers online help, chat and phone assistance rather than the same EE-store journey. A shop is valuable if you need in-person troubleshooting, but owning a premium logo does not guarantee that every support interaction will be better. Do not treat isolated online star ratings as a controlled customer-service comparison.
Which is better for international calls from the UK?
Lebara is usually the first operator to check if you regularly phone overseas numbers. Qualifying Lebara SIM-only bundles include a set amount of international calling to selected destinations. The number of minutes can differ even when two plans have similar UK data, and a country name does not necessarily cover every special, premium, mobile or landline prefix.
EE offers its own international calling services, including optional international passes and add-ons. Those can be sensible if you already want the EE network, but you should compare the add-on fee or destination rate on top of the EE contract. Unlimited UK minutes on EE are not the same as unlimited calls from the UK to another country.
An overseas-calling example that changes the winner
Imagine you call an eligible overseas mobile number for 100 minutes each month. If a suitable Lebara tariff includes exactly those calls, there may be no additional per-minute cost within its allowance. If an otherwise suitable EE tariff or add-on effectively charged 15p a minute for that particular number, 100 minutes would cost £15 for the month. That could outweigh several pounds of monthly price difference.
The 15p rate is fictional. It is not EE's real price for a named country, and the inclusion is not a promise that every Lebara bundle covers it. The correct questions are: which country, mobile or landline, what dialling prefix, how many included minutes, and what happens after the allowance ends? Start with Lebara's current offers and our international calling SIM guide.
Is calling India from the UK the same as using data in India?
No. A call from a UK number to an Indian number is international calling. Taking your phone to India and using mobile data or making calls there is roaming. Lebara advertises eligible India roaming as part of Roam Like Home, but its roaming rules, data ceiling and permissible calls are not interchangeable with its UK-origin international minute allowance. This distinction can save more than a tiny monthly headline discount.
Lebara vs EE roaming: which is better in Europe and India?
Lebara is the stronger starting point for an ordinary eligible European trip if the compared EE plan would charge for roaming. Lebara's Roam Like Home currently covers qualifying European destinations and India, with roaming data capped at the smaller of the UK allowance and 30GB. EE has a different structure: a basic eligible EE plan may incur a roaming charge, while qualifying premium products or paid passes can include covered destinations and a separate fair-use allowance.
| Typical UK allowance | Possible Lebara included Roam Like Home data | EE question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| 5GB | Up to 5GB | Does this exact EE tariff include the destination or require a daily charge/pass? |
| 15GB | Up to 15GB | What data allowance comes with the inclusion or purchased pass? |
| 30GB | Up to 30GB | Are the supported countries and roaming conditions equivalent? |
| 100GB | Up to 30GB | Is a higher EE premium tier's overseas allowance worth its year-round price? |
| Unlimited UK data | Up to 30GB | Unlimited UK data does not mean unlimited EU or India data on either brand |
The Lebara figures are roaming ceilings, not extra GB. Lebara's published EU Roam Like Home policy also applies a rolling 120-day usage test: where EU roaming use exceeds UK use over that period, surcharges may apply. The operator's current inclusion list names Ukraine and India alongside eligible European destinations; the actual country, permitted services and tariff still matter. Some EE premium tariffs provide up to 50GB in qualifying roaming destinations, but this is not a benefit on every EE SIM. Compare the exact country list, cap, fair-use rules and extra charges on both offers.
A fair annual roaming calculation
Example, using fictional figures: suppose two suitable SIMs differ in subscription cost by £5 per calendar month. Over twelve payments, the dearer plan costs £60 more, before any price rise. If your Lebara allowance already covers your European holiday, the fact that a more expensive EE tier also includes EU roaming does not recover that £60. EE would need to deliver something else you value, such as better reception, a genuinely useful speed tier or another eligible destination.
The reverse is possible too: a lower-priced EE offer with paid roaming may still cost less overall if you travel only briefly. Compare all subscription payments plus the actual roaming passes, data top-ups and calling costs for your own trips. Do not count an EE roaming inclusion as a saving unless you would otherwise incur that expense. The numbers above are hypothetical, not today's pass prices. Our EU roaming SIM guide covers a wider selection of providers.
A Lebara eSIM warning before travelling
Do not rely on a newly activated Lebara UK-plan eSIM for immediate included roaming data. Lebara's official eSIM help requires the service to be activated in the UK before travelling. It also states that Roam Like Home data is temporarily blocked while roaming in the EU or India during the first seven days after activation. This is specifically an included-roaming-data restriction; it is not evidence that every roaming call or text is blocked. Lebara says a paid roaming add-on may be available if you need data sooner. A separately sold Lebara Travel eSIM has different rules. Before departure, check which SIM you bought, its activation date and the available roaming-data route.
Does EE have a better 30-day, 12-month or 24-month SIM?
The labels can conceal different commitments. Lebara's standard short-term product is a 30-day rolling bundle. It also has a separate 12-month contract range for people comfortable with a longer commitment. EE has genuine flexible or prepaid products, but many of its mainstream promotional SIM-only contracts carry a 24-month minimum. A low EE 24-month headline price does not give the same freedom to leave as a flexible Lebara bundle.
| Your priority | Better starting comparison | Trade-off to read |
|---|---|---|
| Testing Vodafone versus EE coverage | Lebara 30-day vs a truly flexible EE option | Auto-renew, cancellation notice and SIM activation |
| Want a clear one-year commitment | Lebara 12-month vs a relevant EE option | Check EE's actual term; 24 months is not 12 |
| Will happily stay two years | Best suitable full-term offers from both | Annual EE rises, international calling, roaming and exit charges |
| Need no big recurring surprise | Read the complete fee and renewal schedule | Promotional step-ups, spend limits, excluded charges |
| Might travel or relocate soon | Short-term option on the working network | Flexibility may be worth a higher monthly rate |
Check the UK calling allowance too. The existing Lebara 5GB cards on DealPriceCheck list 1,000 UK minutes and 1,000 texts, not unlimited; the 15GB and 30GB rolling cards list unlimited UK calling and texts. Those are recorded card details, not a promise for every future promotion. A person making extensive ordinary UK calls should not choose a low-data Lebara plan solely because it is cheaper if their actual use would exceed the bundle. A higher suitable Lebara tier or a mainstream EE unlimited-calls product can change that outcome.
eSIM, Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling and hotspot use
Both brands offer essential modern calling features, but the activation journey is not identical. Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling (VoLTE) depend on the handset, software, account provisioning and plan. For someone with weak indoor reception, a supported Wi-Fi Calling arrangement may matter more than an expensive 5G tier.
EE has eSIM activation routes for suitable devices and products. Lebara offers eSIM too, but its current published self-service route for new customers is restricted to the iPhone Air, with different arrangements for existing customers. A phone being generally eSIM-compatible does not establish that you can buy and activate any Lebara deal as an eSIM today. If a digital SIM is essential, verify the exact handset and sign-up path before switching your main number. Our UK Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE guide and eSIM explainer provide more help.
What about tethering a laptop?
Both have data products suitable for ordinary UK phone tethering on compatible devices, subject to plan and fair-use terms. Do not assume an EE tariff's unlimited data means unlimited speed, or that a Lebara bundle's UK allowance becomes an identical roaming hotspot allowance overseas. Teams calls, operating-system updates and cloud backups use data quickly. If your laptop depends on the connection, compare real indoor performance, the exact data allowance, the capped speed if any, and the cancellation terms. See our hotspot and tethering guide.
How do you avoid an unexpected bill?
On Lebara, check your remaining allowance, PAYG balance, renewal setting and destination-specific charges. On EE pay-monthly, check the spend cap, international calling rates, roaming charges, extra purchases and any items excluded from the cap. A £0 spend cap does not make the contract subscription free, nor does it erase amounts already owed. Read our guide to SIM-only spending caps if avoiding out-of-plan charges is a priority.
Lebara or EE: eight buying situations
| If this sounds like you | Where to start | What could change the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Vodafone works well at home and EE offers no local improvement | Lebara | An EE benefit genuinely offsets its full extra cost |
| Vodafone signal fails indoors but EE works | EE | A successful Lebara Wi-Fi Calling test changes the practical need |
| You call eligible overseas numbers every week | Lebara | Exact destination, mobile/landline type and allowed minutes |
| You spend time in eligible Europe or India destinations | Lebara | Specific fair-use cap, travel dates, eSIM restriction and EE premium roaming inclusion |
| You need a simple flexible SIM for an uncertain period | Lebara 30-day, compared with EE rolling | Renewal, UK minutes, compatible phone, out-of-plan rules |
| Your family needs to transfer data between EE account SIMs | Qualifying EE retail plan | Data Gifting eligibility and the total multi-line bill |
| You need premium 5G performance or a specific EE extra | Qualifying EE tier | Actual speed cap, coverage, entitlement and price premium |
| You only need EE's network, not EE-branded features | Compare 1pMobile separately | Different provider support, roaming, renewal and feature eligibility |
The last situation is an alternative, not an EE product. 1pMobile operates on the EE network but is a separate retailer. A 1pMobile 10GB 30-day card offers a distinct EE-network route worth checking if reliable EE reception, rather than EE's retail extras, is your reason to switch. Our EE vs 1pMobile comparison explains the trade-off. This should not be mistaken for choosing EE retail.

| Mid-size data with a one-year commitment | Lebara 30GB, 12-month | Minimum-term liability, overseas minutes and eSIM eligibility |
Use the full Lebara catalogue if you need 50GB, 100GB or an unlimited product rather than paying for an unsuitable small plan. And compare the EE retail catalogue by actual tariff tier, speed, data, length of contract and price schedule; don't assume every EE listing carries the same premium benefits. We have not added any new external EE checkout link or created an unverified affiliate route.
Purchase checklist: verify the actual network at your addresses; your minimum UK data and calls; the plan's contractual term; all known payment changes; any international minutes for your particular numbers; roaming country and data allowance; eSIM/Wi-Fi Calling compatibility; and cancellation costs. Use Full plan details first, then the existing View Deal button for an eligible offer, and confirm the provider's final contract summary.
Can you switch between Lebara and EE without losing your number?
Normally, yes. For an eligible single-line UK mobile number, text PAC to 65075 from the service you're leaving and give the code to your new operator. Ofcom says PAC codes are normally valid for 30 days, and qualifying switches generally complete within one working day after the new provider receives the valid code. If you want a new number rather than keeping the old one, text STAC to 75075; INFO to 85075 helps check your existing contract position.
Your old EE or Lebara commitment does not disappear just because you obtain a PAC. Early-termination charges, an outstanding handset contract and multi-line account procedures may still apply. If network reception is uncertain, test the new SIM before moving the number that you rely on for work or banking. Read Ofcom's official switching guidance and our number-switching guide.
Lebara vs EE: frequently asked questions
Is Lebara as good as EE?
For suitable everyday mobile use, it can be. Lebara uses Vodafone rather than EE's network, so reception differs by place. EE may offer stronger local performance or paid extras; Lebara can provide better value if Vodafone works reliably and its included calling and roaming benefits suit you.
Does Lebara use EE's network?
No. Lebara uses Vodafone's UK mobile network. EE runs its own network. Compare Vodafone and EE in Ofcom's postcode checker before buying.
Is EE's 5G faster than Lebara's?
EE's network has performed strongly in independent tests, but a specific EE SIM can have a tariff speed limit and Vodafone can work better locally. No universal claim about speed is reliable without the exact EE tier, handset and location.
Is Lebara cheaper than EE SIM-only?
Often for eligible budget bundles, but neither always wins. Match data and calling allowances, then compare the entire payment schedule and any useful EE extras. An EE promotion or household discount can change the result.
Does Lebara have a 12-month contract?
Yes. Lebara sells a separate 12-month SIM-only range alongside 30-day rolling bundles. The one-year contract has a minimum commitment and is not the same as cancel-anytime service.
Do EE SIM-only prices increase every year?
Some eligible EE pay-monthly contracts have scheduled pound-and-pence annual increases. The applicable dates and amounts depend on the agreement. Check the final price schedule rather than assuming the first payment is constant throughout the minimum term.
Does Lebara include international calls?
Qualifying Lebara plans include minutes to specified overseas numbers. Country, mobile/landline eligibility and the available minutes depend on the plan, so check the exact destination rather than assuming all overseas calls are included.
Does EE have free EU roaming?
Some qualifying EE plans include eligible roaming, while other tariffs require charges, a pass or an add-on. Compare the destination list and overseas fair-use data cap on the specific EE offer.
Can I use Lebara in India without paying extra roaming charges?
Lebara advertises Roam Like Home in eligible India roaming conditions, up to its plan's allowance and the scheme cap. Fair-use restrictions and, for a newly activated eSIM, a temporary roaming-data restriction can matter, so check your exact activation and tariff before travelling.
Does Lebara support Wi-Fi Calling and eSIM?
It supports Wi-Fi Calling on compatible and provisioned devices, and it offers eSIM. But its published new-customer eSIM sign-up is currently limited to specified iPhone hardware. Check your phone and sign-up route; EE has its own device and plan conditions.
Is EE better for families?
It can be if eligible multiple SIMs share an EE account and use Data Gifting or related household benefits. Compare the whole family bill. Lebara may cost less for separate individual bundles without those EE features.
Can I get EE signal without buying EE retail?
Yes, separate operators such as 1pMobile use EE's underlying network, but their roaming, support, plan features and premium performance access may not match EE retail. That is a different comparison, not proof they offer identical EE service.
Can I keep my number when moving from EE to Lebara?
Usually. Text PAC to 65075 from your EE number and give the code to Lebara. Check whether your EE minimum term or handset finance still creates a payment obligation. The same switching process works in the other direction.
Verdict: is EE worth paying more than Lebara?
Pay extra for EE when you can identify what you are buying: a better signal where you actually need it, a higher eligible speed tier, worthwhile account features or another specific benefit that outweighs its total extra cost. Choose Lebara first when Vodafone coverage works and you want a less expensive suitable SIM, eligible international minutes, more straightforward flexibility or included qualifying roaming.
Compare Lebara SIM deals with EE retail SIM plans on the allowance you need. Start with the Lebara 15GB rolling offer or 30GB rolling offer if flexibility matters, or check the 30GB 12-month option if you're comfortable committing. Avoid paying for premium EE features you will never use, but don't sacrifice working reception just to get the lowest headline price.
